What are goals in Google Analytics and how do I set them up?

Asked 4 months ago
Goals in Google Analytics are specific objectives that a website owner wants users to accomplish while visiting their site. They can include actions such as making a purchase, signing up for a newsletter, or viewing a certain number of pages. By defining goals, users can analyze how well their site performs in relation to these objectives and gain valuable insights into user behavior, which ultimately helps in improving site performance and increasing conversions. To set up goals in Google Analytics, a user must follow several steps. First, the user should sign in to their Google Analytics account and navigate to the Admin panel, which can be found at the bottom left corner of the interface. Within the Admin panel, users should select the relevant account and property for which they want to set up goals. Next, they should click on the "Goals" option found in the View column. Once in the Goals section, the user can click on the "New Goal" button to begin creating a new goal. Google Analytics provides pre-configured templates for common goal types, such as destination, duration, pages/screens per session, and event goals. Users can choose one of these templates or create a custom goal. After selecting the desired goal type, the user needs to fill in specific information, such as the goal name, and relevant details pertaining to that goal type. Once all settings are configured, the user should save the goal. After setting up goals, they will be able to track and analyze goal completions through their reports, helping them understand user interactions more effectively. For more information on setting up goals, users may want to explore the resources available on the current Google Analytics webpage or the help center.
