Getting connected with CDW's customer service team might take a little time, but the results are worth the wait.
When I dialed, I was first told that I could reach an account manager directly if I knew their extension. If not, I could choose either technical support by pressing 5 or one of three areas of sales support by pressing the appropriate button.
I selected 4 for personal sales and waited about 15 minutes on hold. The hold experience wasn't great, as the CDW message simply kept repeating over and over. There wasn't any information on how to get alternate help, there wasn't anything about CDW products or solutions that could be complementary to what I was calling about, nothing. All I got were repeated assurances that my call was important to them and calls were answered in the order they were received.
Finally, my wait ended, and I was connected with Walter. I told Walter that I was in the market for a new computer and I wanted to find one with enough RAM to stand up to the usage I needed. He said he couldn't offer very technical support, but he would give his best professional opinion.
I told him that I'm a freelance writer and I'm sick of my computer dying on me every two to three years, so I wanted to know how much RAM I needed to get the most from my machine. He told me that with that amount of usage, 16 GB would be the minimum that he would recommend.
I then added that I routinely do a lot of research and comparison, so I regularly had a lot of tabs open. He said with that being the case, 32 GB would likely be the sweet spot for my needs. He reiterated that I could probably get away with 16 GB of RAM, but if I wanted my computer to perform at its best, I would need 32 GB.
I found this call very informative. Nobody had ever explained it to me this well, and I felt like I had genuinely gained valuable information from our interaction. Even though Walter said he couldn't offer much technical support, it was clear that he knew enough to provide helpful advice on the topic and could definitely steer me in the right direction if I chose a machine with his assistance.
If this is indicative of the level of technical support CDW provides its actual customers, I'd feel confident saying that they're getting good advice in a way they can use. If I were a genuine CDW customer, I'd feel confident calling this number for technical support.
