Linksys: Thanks!...I Think

HomeConsumer blogOct 2010Linksys: Thanks!...I Think
So I just went through the interminable process that is moving. No one likes to move. It's hard work. It's a huge pain. You have no idea where anything is for a few days, and you basically spend all of your time setting everything up the way it was in your old place, in a very similar way in your new place. One of the wonderful processes that one must endure is having cable and internet installed and with that, re-installing a wireless router. Now, I realize that having a wireless router isn't a necessity to all of our readers, but I work for myself, so being able to work from my new apartment occasionally is a must. In step our friends from Linksys.

Let me premise this by saying I am not too tech savvy. I also am an extreme optimist. When I hear from the cable man that all I need to do is buy a wireless router and connect it to the modem, I think, "No problem, I can handle that." Armed with my new Linksys router, I follow the overly simple instructions and?....Nothing. I try again. Nothing. After five failed online chat sessions with the customer service representatives, they informed me I needed to call the number that we have conveniently listed here at GetHuman.com. The woman, realzing the dire tone in my voice, simply walked me through the process, at 11 o'clock at night no less, and quickly had my new apartment/work place, running smoothly with wireless internet.

The moral of the story? Sometimes it's easier and faster to just call the number. Many companies such as Linksys are trying to offer online chat rooms as a means to decrease call volume. Some are better than others. While we here at GetHuman.com are advocates for better customer service, and especially finding fast solutions to the CSR maze, sometimes it pays to use the number above email, chat, or whatever option the company offers. Lord knows it would have saved me hours of my time and hours of frustration. The other obvious moral that if helpful to pass on is, try calling during off-peak hours. The later it got in the day, the shorter the wait in the online chat queue, and when that failed and I had to call, I was able to get right though.

And that folks, is the most(least?) interesting story you have ever read about installing a wireless router. Thanks Linksys...I think.
