Good news for all of you frequent travelers,
Holiday Inn has recently invested $1 billion into revamping its hotels, in an effort to rebrand the company.
Holiday Inn rose to prominence in the 1950's and 60's as reliable roadside hotels that were consistently clean and predictable, and always located off of major highways for frequent travelers. While
Holiday Inn was intended to be an upgrade over roadside motels that were extremely inconsistent and relatively dirty. However, over the past few decades,
Holiday Inn has slipped in its consistency across its brand and has been tarnished by having a reputation of dirty hotel rooms that varied in quality from hotel to hotel. With the introduction of similar alternatives by Marriott and Hyatt, customers began choosing other options over
Holiday Inn due to its reputation.
Well the company apparently has had enough. Starting in 2007,
Holiday Inn began investing $1 billion into its hotel chains in an effort to clean up its hotels, and give customers a more consistent experience. Of the changes customers can expect to see are updated entrances with new landscaping and planters, thus giving the hotel a clean look.
Holiday Inn has also cleaned up the rooms, giving customers different options for pillows, and curved shower curtains, thus creating a more relaxed feel in the bathroom. Finally, and most importantly,
Holiday Inn has instituted a rigorous customer service training program, forcing each chain to meet various requirements in quality, in order to earn the right to place new signs on each hotel.
While the company's efforts are beginning to pay-off in terms of increased revenue, it will be interesting to see if the growth continues. With so many options for travelers to choose from, it will be interesting to see how quickly
Holiday Inn can shake the old image that customers have of the company, and hopefully return to prominence as a consistent roadside option for frequent travelers. For more on the rebranding effort at
