You may or may not have already seen our GetHuman Holiday Shopping Tips, but we also wanted to pass along some helpful return tips for some of those presents that you received that you might want to return or exchange. According to our friends from Boston.com, helpful tips to keep in mind include:

Electronics and jewelry: Know that electronics and jewelry generally have a shorter return period than other items, so act accordingly. Larger stores also have different rules for clothing and home furnishing items.

Online purchases: Check the website ahead of time. Some store websites have different return rules than the actual stores, so make sure purchases online will be accepted in store. Some times the online store isn't affiliated with the actual store, so it's best to check ahead before you head out.

Extended return period: In general, retailers extend the return period around the holidays, so if it's something that you don't love a week from now, chances are you will still be able to return it. The other benefit of the holidays is the relaxed policy requiring a receipt. If you don't have a receipt, more times than not the store will give you credit for the item towards the purchase of another item.

Restocking fees: Beware that some companies charge a restocking fee. Most of the time it applies to electronics, but it's worth checking before returning that unwanted item.
