For those of you looking for a full-service broker, Forrester Research recently published a survey ranking
Edward Jones as the best discount broker. In an industry where turn-over is high, and where there has been recent scrutiny about doing what's right for the customer versus doing what's right for the company's bottom line,
Edward Jones customers have tended to be more pleased with their broker. Rounding out the top five were Raymond James,
UBS ,
Morgan Stanley , and
Wells Fargo Advisors.
Many of us have lost a lot of money in the stock market in recent years, so finding a good investment adviser can be tough. In a field with high turnover, where financial representatives frequently change firms due to consolidation or lack of track record, gun-shy customers want to be confident handing over their retirement account to another party.
Edward Jones often encourages new hires to start their own firm, or even work from home, in an effort to gain customers through friends and family members looking to diversify their portfolios. Under this model, financial representatives will feel more inclined to perform as to not have to face their friends and family if their portfolio's are lagging behind the major indexes. As the results of the survey show,
Edward Jones seems to be getting it right during these tough economic times. People want to feel confident their money is safe, and
Edward Jones, while lesser known than some of the larger firms, has proven that by focusing on the customer, a company can do right by the customer and increase the company's bottom line at the same time.
