Target operates the call center for this 800-440-0680 phone number 24 hours, 7 days. The short answer is that you should call on a Monday. This observation and the following section are based on analysis of a sample set of 946 calls made in the last 90 days using our free, web-based phone (see above).
An important note: busy times vs hold times vs best time to call
When we refer to busy or less busy times, we are talking about the volume of calls. The busiest times are when the most people are calling this Target phone number (least busy times have fewer people calling). This high call volume does not necessarily mean that you will have a long hold time when you call. Companies like Target staff their call centers differently based on the time of day and day of the week, so you may experience a shorter wait on hold at the busiest of times. When we refer to the best time to call, we are referring to the optimal combination of lower call volume and shorter wait times.
The least busy time to call
The least busy day to call Target is Sunday. The most busy day to call is Thursday, which averages 69% more phone calls by comparison. Again, this is based on a sample of 946 calls made with our AI-powered, web-based phone in the last 90 days.

My Experience Calling 800-440-0680

Nov 30, 2023

Individuals who call one of Target’s customer service numbers may have questions about credit cards, gift cards, order status or return policies. I called Target’s 800-440-0680 number because I wanted to know how long a person receiving a gift from Target has to return that gift if they are not satisfied with it. Since I would be purchasing gifts before Christmas day, I needed to know if the return period starts on the day of purchase or the day I give the gift.

Upon calling the customer service number, the automated voice response system greeted me with “Thanks for calling Target Guest Relations.” The system gave me the option to hear the information in Spanish.

The menu offered the following options: For store experience, questions about merchandise or coupons, press one. For registry or lists, press two. Press three for Target.com orders and four for credit or debit cards, gift cards, and third-party credit cards. Those interested in becoming vendors could press 5. To hear the information again, I could press pound (#).

I decided to press two and heard about privacy practices and how to opt out of the company sharing personal information. The system said the company may record my call, and then some music played briefly.

Next, I heard, “Thanks for calling gift card services." I told the representative I was not trying to reach gift card services but hoped they could help me. I asked them how long a person has to return a gift from Target. I told them I planned to buy some Christmas gifts and wanted to know how long a recipient has to return a gift if needed.

The associate explained that the time for returning gifts for the holidays begins on December 25th, which was all the information I needed. I thanked the associate. However, she asked for my first and last name and email address. I shared my name with her but decided against sharing my email address. I could not see the point of giving her additional personal information since I had a simple question about returns. There was no need for the company to contact me about anything further.

The call to Target’s customer service number was typical of what I’ve come to expect. I had to endure the menu prompting me to press a number for assistance. Still, I was happy that I could speak to a customer service associate who could answer my questions quickly. Overall, it was a good call.

As a last, sometimes only, resort- Target customer service can be accessed through their website. This can entail digging through help articles before finding a form and "being allowed" to submit a problem to their team, and rarely leads to a real-time conversation, which is why GetHuman does not recommend this unless it's the only way.
