Thanks to a streamlined phone system, Spirit Air makes it easy for customers who need to reach an agent for questions or concerns. When calling their support line, I was greeted with an automated message offering Spanish language assistance by pressing 9 followed by a notice to stay on the phone at the end of the call for a short survey.
Customers calling from mobile phones are then given the option to converse with Spirit Air representatives in real time via text messaging by pressing 1. That sounded like an efficient method but I decided to wait on the phone to see if I could speak with someone.
After a minute of hold time, I was offered a full menu of options ranging from booking a new flight or checking on an existing reservations to help with general questions or Sprit Air credit card assistance. Since I was calling to get information about their payment plan program, I opted for general questions and was placed on hold. While waiting, the automated system shares informational updates regarding the new RealID card that will be required to fly starting in 2025 as well as Spirit Air’s reward program that helps flyers accrue miles for discounts.
Upbeat music fills the hold time, which lasted close to 10 minutes. This wasn’t too tedious of a wait for me but for those who don’t have much time to spare, the text option initially offered may be the way to go. When the rep came on the line, I was asked to give my identification before being asked how I could be helped.
Having never flown on Spirit, I asked the rep about any deals, promotions or payment plans that would make booking a flight more budget-friendly. He explained that any seasonal promotions are regularly posted online, adding that Spirit does offer a payment plan through Uplift that allows customers to pay for a flight in low monthly payments. Flyers are able to book flights now, choose Uplift at the time of payment and apply for the program. Approval isn’t guaranteed, he shared, and may be denied based on credit details or amount requested.
However, once approved and the loan terms determined, he told me flyers can reserve flights as soon as needed and begin making payments within the approved period. Interest rates tend to be lower than most credit cards, he added.
This sounded like a great way to make a budget-friendly trip happen, especially when tight finances prohibit making one large payment. He agreed and asked if I had any other questions. I thanked him for his time before the call ended and hung around for the survey, ready to share my appreciation for a helpful and knowledgeable employee.
