What are the hours and when should I call?

Nikon operates the call center for this 800-645-6687 phone number Mon-Fri 9am-8pm ET. The short answer is that you should call on a Monday. This observation and the following section are based on analysis of a sample set of 405 calls made in the last 90 days using our free, web-based phone (see above).
An important note: busy times vs hold times vs best time to call
When we refer to busy or less busy times, we are talking about the volume of calls. The busiest times are when the most people are calling this Nikon phone number (least busy times have fewer people calling). This high call volume does not necessarily mean that you will have a long hold time when you call. Companies like Nikon staff their call centers differently based on the time of day and day of the week, so you may experience a shorter wait on hold at the busiest of times. When we refer to the best time to call, we are referring to the optimal combination of lower call volume and shorter wait times.
The least busy time to call
The least busy day to call Nikon is Monday. The most busy day to call is Friday. Again, this is based on a sample of 405 calls made with our AI-powered, web-based phone in the last 90 days.
The shortest wait on hold
We measured the shortest hold times to be on Wednesday. The longest wait in the queue on average occurs on Monday.
The best time to call
In summation, the best day to call Nikon is Monday. This is not the day with the shortest wait on hold in the phone system, but we still recommend it for its ideal combination of low call volume and short hold times. Plus we believe that Nikon staffs the call center well on Monday.

My Experience Calling 800-645-6687

I accidentally knocked my tripod over while doing Christmas photos for a client, and it's clear that it needs to be repaired. While the damage isn't extensive, it's enough that I want to get my camera repaired and I want to have it done right. Therefore, the only place I want to handle it would be a Nikon service center. However, I don't think there are any around me and I don't know how to use my warranty plan. I'm a professional photographer and I'm usually very careful. This is not the type of thing that usually happens to me.

So, I assumed the best thing I could do was call Nikon and see what they could do for me. While there are a lot of people who own Nikon cameras, I figured the wait couldn't be that bad. At least, I would know what I was doing by the time I was done. I'm sure other people have to call about repairs, replacements, and just general questions about their cameras and technical compatibility etc.

All in all, it wasn't a terrible phone call, but I did really have to pay attention because there were a lot of steps to get through. The categories were a bit technical. I got the standard greeting when I called and was told to press 1 to continue in English. It then launched the first directory with the following options, "For technical support with a Nikon Z Series mirrorless camera, Nikon lenses, Nikon Speedlights or Nikon Digital, please press 1. For technical support with a Nikon 1, Nikon Coolpix, or any other Nikon camera, press 2. For assistance with a Nikon store order and information regarding Nikon School, press 3. If you have sent your product in for repair or need help with sending a product in for repair, press 4. For all other technical support questions, press 5."

I pressed 4, since I needed to have my camera repaired, and then I was given another suite of options which included, "For shipping instructions, press 1. For driving directions and hours of a Nikon service facility, press 2. For warranty information, press 3. For a battery recall or service advisory, press 4. To speak with the support staff, press 0." This list seemed a bit useless because I'm not sure people would really call for shipping or driving directions. Most callers with a repair question would probably want to talk to a person.

Of course, I chose to speak with support staff, and after a short period of ringing, I was told, "Your call may be monitored and recorded. If you consent to this, please hold for the next available training representative." Then, I was connected to a friendly rep. We discussed what my warranty covered and what I would probably be liable for in terms of repair. She also explained the process in detail until I felt confident in my decision to ship my camera to them.

More Ways to Contact Nikon Customer Service

There are of course other ways to contact Nikon customer service besides the phone. Below we list the best ones, by medium.
X (formerly Twitter)
www.twitter.com/NikonUSASupport - Technical Support
Use the link to connect with customer service through Twitter
Nikon, like many companies, provides customer service on the X platform (formerly Twitter). While it rarely entails live dialogue with a customer service rep, this channel can yield rapid response times and can be a useful option if you have an X/Twitter account.
Facebook / Messenger
https://www.facebook.com/nikonusa - Customer Service
Use this link to connect with customer service through Facebook
Some customer service teams, like that of Nikon, accept inquiries through Facebook Messenger. This is a good option if you have a Facebook account, and you may even be able to converse live with an agent this way.
Nikon's website
Online Help - Customer Service
Use this link to find customer service help through their website
As a last, sometimes only, resort- Nikon customer service can be accessed through their website. This can entail digging through help articles before finding a form and "being allowed" to submit a problem to their team, and rarely leads to a real-time conversation, which is why GetHuman does not recommend this unless it's the only way.
