What are the hours and when should I call?

Greyhound operates the call center for this 800-231-2222 phone number 24 hours, 7 days. The short answer is that you should call on a Friday. This observation and the following section are based on analysis of a sample set of 759 calls made in the last 90 days using our free, web-based phone (see above).
An important note: busy times vs hold times vs best time to call
When we refer to busy or less busy times, we are talking about the volume of calls. The busiest times are when the most people are calling this Greyhound phone number (least busy times have fewer people calling). This high call volume does not necessarily mean that you will have a long hold time when you call. Companies like Greyhound staff their call centers differently based on the time of day and day of the week, so you may experience a shorter wait on hold at the busiest of times. When we refer to the best time to call, we are referring to the optimal combination of lower call volume and shorter wait times.

The least busy day to call Greyhound is Sunday. The most busy day to call is Thursday, which averages 87% more phone calls by comparison. Again, this is based on a sample of 759 calls made with our AI-powered, web-based phone in the last 90 days.

My Experience Calling 800-231-2222

Jan 24, 2024

I am thinking about taking a trip over break, but a flight is too expensive in this economic climate. Therefore, I thought maybe I'd check into Greyhound to see what type of pricing I could find. I also am looking at an alternative destination to hopefully spend less while still getting to see something new. I like to try to get out and see the world as much as possible when I have downtime. I've never traveled via Greyhound though, so I thought that I would call to book a trip to make sure that I get my questions answered.

To be honest, I've never thought about traveling Greyhound before and didn't even know where the closest terminal would be to me. I also didn't know how it works, and if there are layovers and transfers like there would be on a flight. These are all things that I thought an agent would be the best to assist me with. Given that Greyhound travels across the country, I thought there might be a long wait. It turns out there was a medium wait, but it was an odd one because they don't use hold music and for a while, I thought they hung up on me or something glitched.

When I called, an automated voice picked up and said, "Welcome to Greyhound." He then offered me to continue in English, Spanish, or French and I chose English. Before I could even get to directory options, I had to listen to two very long lectures. The first was about the data policy of Greyhound and the second seemed like a leftover artifact from lockdown. Both held little meaning to me and took too much time.

Next, I was offered a directory that included these options, "For fares and schedules, press 1. For information about possible questioning and Washington state travel, press 2. To book a trip, press 3. To find a bus stop, press 4. To track your bus, press 5. For information for first-time travelers, press 6." After I pressed 3, it asked me to stay on the line and gave me instructions about taking part in a survey. Then the line went dead.

There was no hold music or anything, but it also didn't hang up on me. I waited for 10 minutes and nothing changed. It was just dead silence the entire time. I'm not sure if I would've gotten to someone or not, but I hung up and figured I'd try one more time. If the same thing happens I'll probably just go online and book.

More Ways to Contact Greyhound Customer Service

There are of course other ways to contact Greyhound customer service besides the phone. Below we list the best ones, by medium.
Live Chat

Use this link to connect with customer service via chat
If phone-based customer service is not available, or the wait times are long, many people prefer chat as a next-best option. Some even prefer it to calling on the phone. Luckily, Greyhound provides this option.
Greyhound's website
As a last, sometimes only, resort- Greyhound customer service can be accessed through their website. This can entail digging through help articles before finding a form and "being allowed" to submit a problem to their team, and rarely leads to a real-time conversation, which is why GetHuman does not recommend this unless it's the only way.
