Today I reserved a Zipcar originally from ** am to *pm. After driving from Williamstown to Albany using the car and parking it, I did an errand and wanted to hop back in. The car wouldn't unlock. This was at around *:**. I phoned Zipcar assistance and they told me the battery wasn't working which is why I couldn't get back in. They told me that they would have a tow company come and rejump it and would be there within the hour. I kept waiting and phoning every half hour and nothing for * and a half hours. It was dark and I don't like driving in the dark in the fog back to Williamstown as it is a non-lighted winding roads. I also wanted to be back by * maximum since I had work to do in the evening and something important to submit for a federally funded project I am working on. The service was awful, they kept telling me that they were trying to phone me which was untrue since my phone was literally glued to my hand. The tow company never came nor phoned and they kept saying I can't leave the car otherwise I will pay an abandonment fee. At * pm finally they told me that they don't know what has happened to the tow company. I ordered an Uber and it cost me $**.** in addition to the emotional upset, the horrible waste of time and ruining my day and work schedule. There were three items also left in the car, a coat, a shawl and headphones that put together cost around $***.**. I would like to be reimbursed for the Uber ride and my things to be returned and definitely better policies and services in the future. I am going to complain to Williams College which is where I teach and through which I have the Zipcar membership and will write about this horrible episode on facebook, twitter and make a huge deal of it here on campus. You need to have better procedures and policies and service. If I were you, you should have a way of remotely unlocking the car in cases like this to retrieve the items and you should have been able to send me a substitute car rather than have me wait for *:** hours for nothing and threaten to have me pay abandonment fees when it wasn't my fault that the awful third party tow company never came!
