For the Yelp Business Advertising Manager,**I had a somewhat disturbing conversation with one of your sales representatives, Joel,*today.* Our discussion started off amicably. He was courteous, enthusiastic and well versed with the Yelp product. Unfortunately, as his pitch wore on, that's where my positive opinion of his salesmanship ended. If you are indeed recording sales calls, you might want to listen to this one.**I explained to Joel that the main issue I have is with the Yelp service area policy. We serve clients in a ***-*** mile radius. By restricting the service area, I believe that there is little chance for success with any advertising program. I agreed to hear him out but expressed at the onset that this issue was a show stopper.**I'm ** years old and I've been in this very specialized niche business for ** years. I explained to Joel that the narrow area ad program was not something that I'd ever be willing to pay for without proof of viability. He pressed on with a series of yes response questions in a transparent attempt to bum rush me to the credit card input page. I wasn't offended until this point in the call.**When I explained that he had not resolved my objections, Joel attempted to offer an arbitrary agreement allowing as how "he" would expand the service area* however, when I suggested that he do this then and there, he was apparently unable to do so. He continued attempting to close me and obtain my CC info.**At this point, I advised Joel that I may be willing to accept the $*** in gratis advertising for a month to see if Yelp would be viable for HAR. I also told him that I was going to take time to consider this, and that I would not be paying at that time. He went right back to his somewhat amateurish sales dialogue even after I warned him that I was nearing the end of my time and patience* Finally, I had to hang up on him.**I do indeed want to give Yelp a chance. Realizing that Yelp does work well for a lot of other types of businesses, I think it's worth a shot. I am willing to accept the generous $*** offer at $***day for a month to test whether this program can be viable under my unique circumstances.**Please understand that I will not continue a dialogue with Joel. I understand that he's a young man who is obviously enthusiastic selling the service. On the other hand, his closing manners were not unlike a bad used car salesman.
