I moved to Middleton on *-**-**** and my movers (Gorilla Movers) stole, lost and broke thousands of dollars of my property along with several hundred narcotic drugs I had never gotten around to disposing of. They tripled to estimate. They re-boxed everything into their own boxes - I had already packed everything in Amazon and Chewy boxes, but they could charge for the boxes. They were vaguely labeled and just dumped in (my toilet bowl brush was with my food storage containers. I should add that I continue to experience chronic pain from a broken back (abt. *yrs ago) and a broken hip during the **** flood. I have also had a stroke, maybe ** yrs ago. I am eligible for and waiting to have a pain pump inserted in my back (Dean Pain Mgmt). At the time of the move I was unable to walk, and barely stand, with a walker due to the pain and advised Gorilla that I would not be able to oversee them. They knew I was a senior citizen (formerly from Prairie Park Sr. Apts.), that I was disabled and that I had to vacate my apt. by *-**-**. I was a sitting duck. I paid my movers with Visa. After seeing the situation they had put me in, I called Visa and after an investigation Visa cancelled the payment and told me I owed the movers nothing. I tried to negotiate the damage with Dustin Olson (owner, along with "Momma Sue" who he described as a pit viper). He refused to provide me with his insurance carrier (I tried to find it through the agency that oversees commercial carriers but couldn't), threatened me with legal action, bullied me, for ** min. I was, and still am, receiving home health care thru SSM-Dean Home Health United. Dustin was going to come to my new home to "deal with it" so I immediately called my social worker (Margaret Rufflo (***-****) and my bath aide and they rushed over to help support me. Maggie has full permission to discuss this with you, if you choose. Between my call to Gorilla and their arrival my nurse came to check on me and my BP was ******. Stroke level - I normally run ****** and was terrified I was about to have a fatal stroke. Maggie arrived about the same time Dustin and * of his movers came. Dustin threatened me, stood up as tall as he could, puffed out his chest and told me he was *'*" and ****. Maggie dealt with him while I tried to calm down. He bullied me so badly I have developed PTSD. I am receiving therapy for it with * psychiatrist, * psychologist (for anxiety and depression) and another psychologist for biofeedback and it is hopeful I will eventually recover with time. I have frequent panic attacks, nightmares and flashbacks. I called my renter's insurance agent in La Crosse (Friesinger Ins., *now Meritrust with a new owner* as the old family relationships had died) and had coverage with Erie Insurance I have replacement coverage and have only had *-* claims in ** years. I am ** years old and have all of the thing you would expect a person my age to have, along with antique furniture and jewelry from my ancestors. They, too, knew my physical and mental condition. Erie sent out and adjuster who variously told me I had to establish a proof of loss immediately, and then that I should take my time given my inability to move, open and place boxes in their appropriate place. I only now realize he was trying to run out the statute of limitations. Erie employs a company called Enservio out of MA. and they came out to establish replacement costs. They grossly devalued the replacement cost of my objects and created a proof of loss for about $**,***, but many things weren't addressed because I hadn't realized they were missing. I filed a police report and the officer noted he saw no evidence a crime had been committed. Erie used that statement to deny me coverage. I tried to have a supplemental report filed. I spoke with Chief Hellenbrand of Middleton PD. He told me he had never heard of that happening and that the report would not influence the outcome of the claim. He agreed that Erie is cheating me. Enservio came * times and the adjuster (Wayne Sovinski) twice, each time complaining about the * hr. drive from Waukesha to my home. He offered me a check for $*,*** ($*** deductible) which I refused. Erie still refused to reimburse me. I have filed complaints with DATCP, BBB, and YELP but none of them have enforcement power. I called the WI Insurance Commissioner who firmly instructed me not to file a compIaint against Erie, no reason given. I have contacted Legal Action, Elder Rights and the State Bar lawyer referral service. I was given names of attorneys, none of which wanted to proceed (various reason such as cost and SOL). I have made cold calls to every firm I have heard of. Two of them said had a case, but couldn't help me. I was assigned a new adjuster (David Zunker in Madison ***-****) and when he felt I was going to hire an attorney he said to double check my losses and he would see if he could get some more for me (even though the case had been closed). He demanded to know who I had hired and I refused to tell him anything. I called the CEO's office in Erie, PA, Timothy Necastro, and ended up speaking with one of his VP's (David Butt). Butt told me that the corporate office didn't deal with these things, I asked him why not and he told me that they don't work with cases at my level. He said that Kemmy Stickey(?) the WI VP out of Waukesha had made her decision and it was final. My most recent legal contact was was Gingras, et al. Their message said I should find an atty immediately due to the statute of limitations. I don't know what the SOL is, but believe it may be soon. I could not find a lawyer who would take my case and felt my only recourse was publicity. I put a classified ad in the lost and found ("if you used Gorilla Movers and are missing items, I might have them") and received a few calls, most of them fishing for things to claim. Gorilla delivered some cookware that was not mine, and towels and bedding that weren't mine either. One woman read it in the Spring Harbor paper and said they lost some large, irreplaceable brackets for a large mirror. I am trying to get in touch with of *****, Dateline and ** minutes since Erie is named in an advertising for a class action suit regarding refusing to pay companies that had had COVID, I even called that advertised law firm to see if they could provide me with any insight or advice. They couldn't. the reviews for Erie are generally poor as far as payouts but that doesn't help me with my losses. I am deeply in debt to credit cards for necessary replacements (all of significantly less quality) and may have to consider bankruptcy. I will have no assets to live out my intended additional ** of my life. Needless to say, I will be changing my insurance company. because I had never checked into Erie due to my trust in the family ties. I have documents, notes, and records of inbound and outbound calls the phone calls from my telephone provider that will support these allegations and will freely share them with anybody who can help, as long as they realize I have frequent panic attacks and often cannot communicate coherently. As hard as I have tried I have been unable to get ANY consistent answers from the many, many direct questions. They all change depending on who I am speaking to and what they think they can get away with. I am looking for the reimbursement I have been paying for and for restoration of my health.
GetHuman-cathyico did not yet indicate what Wisconsin State Journal should do to make this right.
I have had decades of coverage with Erie Insurance through both Friesinger Ins. and Meritrust Ins. with very, very few claims. Both are in La Crosse and have stayed with them due to my loyalty with my hometown.
Personal contact with Gorilla Movers, Erie Insurance and its representatives, Legal Action, Elder Rights, DATCP, BBB, Yelp, classified lost and found in the WSJ, State Bar Lawyer Referral, Office of the Insurance Commissioner, none of which have enforcement authority. Calls to acquaintances who are attorneys, internet search of reviews of attorneys who deal with insurance companies (Erie is represented locally by Boardman and Clark). Interviews with potential attorneys discussing costs and time, SOL, (I am philosophically opposed to such things as unreasonable contingency costs, and ancillary costs, preferring fee for services rendered), discussions with mental health professionals with whom I am socially acquainted with, immediate and continuing mental health therapy.
