I have been a Wapo subscriber for ** years. My subscription this year was supposed to end in late June which I forgot about and didn't call to renew. Instead I got a bill in the mail last week saying my subscription ended on May ** and I owned $**.** cents and could renew for $***.** for eight more weeks. My entire year's cost had been $**.**! Obviously, this was confusing and unacceptable. So I called and tried to explain to your customer service representative what happened. She said my subscription ended on May ** because I got some "special editions" during the year. I don't even know what that means. And she insisted that bills had been sent earlier and that we also spoke on the phone, neither of which is true. The statement dated ******* was the first time I heard from you. She was most unhelpful so I told her I would simply cancel and she shouldn't expect me to pay the $**.** (which she told me was now over $**!) She was not only unhelpful* she was condescending and rude and snide. It saddens me that after more than ** years as a Washington Post subscriber, I felt I had no choice but to cancel my subscription. I had hoped to clear up this misunderstanding and find a reasonable rate for another year of daily and weekend papers. $**.** or something close to that would have been acceptable, and I would have contined to be a loyal customer. In these dark times when reporters and newspapers are being attacked by an unhinged President, I want to support our great newspapers but I guess it will have to be a different one.
