The issue in GetHuman-damayant's own words
My husband and I are vegetarian and lean towards vegan diet. We went to the Cosmic Cafe in future world. I saw a super salad with chicken and thought it would be actually super without the chicken. I said I was vegan and I wanted * super salads with NO chicken (made it very clear) we were handed * super salads with chicken. When I said I ordered without they immediately threw it away and replaced it with a new salad with no chicken. This is a problem. The goal of most vegans is to reduce the demand for animal products with a hope that fewer animals will be slaughtered due to decreased demand. The fact that the chicken suffered in both life and death to be thrown in the trash is horrific. I live in Florida and on occasion take my grandchildren and friends and relatives to Disney World when they visit us, but Disney World is not accommodating to vegans. There are blogs and websites that say they are, but most restaurants require that you speak to a manager or chef to get a vegan meal. Why can't they start having one vegan option at restaurants with a small v next to the item so that a person who chooses to eat vegan and is with a group of non vegans doesn't have to make a deal and request to speak to a chef etc. Many restaurants now use a v next to items so their doesn't have to be an awkward discussion. Anyway I normally bring a backpack with most of my food in it. When we stay at a Disney resort the staff encourages the meal plan. I don't want a meal plan when Disney offers so few vegan options. But when the chicken got tossed I just decided I am no longer going to visit Disney World until they begin to acknowledge vegans exist by offering vegan menu options in plain sight. They probably get a ton of support and money or discounts from the meat industry to not accommodate vegans so they will surely not miss my pittance of occasional spending and I'm guessing they would prefer to fill their parks with meat eating mainstream people. My suggestion is that Disney World hire a vegan consultant to help them deal with vegan menu display or other ideas of ways to easily accommodate vegans. Until there is a change I will no longer be a visitor of the park. There are other happy places such as the Kale Cafe in Daytona Beach to go to and there is a beautiful ocean and also a cool zip line. There are many places we will be checking out and try to give our business to people who accommodate and respect vegan lifestyle.
