Store:***** Operator:****** Transaction:******I was in your store on Market street on ******** and spent $***.** for merchandise. At that time I bought three bags of Halloween candy @$**.** each. We used two bags on the night of Halloween and went to return the third unopened bag last night because we knew of Walmart's liberal return policy. The girl at the return desk stated we are not accepting returns of Halloween candy at this time. I asked to speak to the manager. The manager stated that we will not take back the candy. I told him he should take down his return policy sign. He stated that returns are at his discretion. I told him I was a retail manager for ** years and never heard of such a thing. When I was managing in California all of management was given a copy of Stew Leonard's book "The Customer is Always Right." Funny thing is when we left the store and went to a restaurant my wife was telling everyone about the incident. That is what Stew Leonard states in his book. Customers do not always mention good service, but they are always willing to spread the story about bad service. I was a retail manager for a large chain in Southern California and taught for the M.B.A. program at the University for ** years in the evening. I know that good customer service is essential for the survival of a store. Walmart is a large chain and so was Sears, Montgomery Wards and Toys R US.
