On March **, ****, my wife-Helen Duke- was too fly out of Burlington, VT at *:** A.M. on a one-stop and change to Orlando, FL. I drove her to Burlington the previous night and she stayed at a hotel and was shuttled to the airport.*After waiting in line she went to the checkin desk and was told that she would not be allowed on the flight because she was too late to get there at least ** minutes before the departure time. She got upset and asked to speak to a supervisor, loudly. The person at the desk told her that the supervisor could not be there until the plane was loaded* then called security . My wife was ushered away from the desk. The man behind her asked if the plane was full and was told there were plenty of seats. *After my wife calmed down, she called me to come and get her. I was not awake at that time and so she left a message. The time of her call on my answering machine was *:** A.M. So, when I finally got the message, I went and got my wife about **: ** A.M. Meanwhile she had gotten rebooked for the following day.*Please provide the real reason for turning her away. It is my suspicion that either the checkin person had already given the seat away or, and, this is more probable, the handicapped assistance called for on the booking was not available. *Finally, while I was picking up my wife, an apparent worker at the airport overheard our conversation and remarked to someone (both were behind us) that they didn't understand why my wife wasn't allowed on the plane as it left several minutes late while the ground crew was trying to fill seats. *Based on what I know, the airline needs to apologize and give us back the costs of the flight. Sorry, my wife in Florida took all the flight information with her so I can't give you any of that. A future flight as a apology won't cut it we won't fly with United ever again* every time is an exercise in frustration.
