I reported an item taken from gate checked bag by going to this link:**https:**www.united.com*ual*en*us*fly*travel*baggage*checked-bag-missing-items.html**And clicking the Missing Items May Be Reported link under the heading: Missing Items from Checked Baggage.**I tried calling the number provided, but not one of the options was for Missing Item from Checked Baggage.**The email I received says you will “look for my lost item.” It is not a “lost item” it is a stolen item.**Presumably, I need to use the hard copy form for “Claim Form for checked baggage that is missing items.” **This page is unnecessarily complex, and is likely to cause people to miss the ** day window for making the hard copy claim.**I sent the above to the *****@***.com, and asked: Please respond to this email so I know a real person will review what I send in. This entire process is very unsatisfactory, starting with being forced to check my bag at the gate (all over group * were required to do so, and the gate person claimed the overhead bins were full - which they were not).**I received an auto reply stating I would hear back in *-** weeks and that no further emails would be responded to. **So I called the missing item number (the one without a proper option key) and hit * until I got to a person, but the person is in India and I do not have ** minutes to wade through the problems with language to discuss the issue while they go through their script. I tried customer service, and got to India, and asked for US based rep, and was told "no."**Someone at United Chicago or Seatac stole my sunglasses out of the top of my gate-checked bag, and I need to be reimbursed without spending twenty hours of frustration on the process.
