I was waiting to board flight **** from Denver to Jacksonville on ******* with several other passengers at the gate listed on all monitors and on the sign at the gate. The flight was scheduled to leave at **:** and at about **:** I heard an announcement from our gate agent, which I could barely hear that our gate had been changed. I had been standing at the gate for ** min before and heard nothing. When I got to the new gate just a few gates down, the plane had already pushed off. I was not alone, several other people some with small children were in the same predicament. We were then told by * agents (one was named KarenKing) that it was our fault, they would not bring the plane back, and to go to customer service. There was even a flight crew sitting nearby that saw our problem and they were trying to call united directly for us. In the end, a manager came out, apologized, gave us reimbursement for the flight, and a $*** voucher. I ended up flying to Jacksonville on another airline arriving * hrs later. The entire issue could have been prevented with better communication and some flexibility. I am not sure what the gate agent was thinking at the new gate when half the flight who had checked in was not at the new gate.*I fly frequently for work and I have never been treated so poorly by an airline. This was clearly the gate agents mistake. I arrived to the airport on time, payed attention to signs directing me to my gate, and was listening to announcements at my gate. There was even a family taking a photo in front of the Jacksonville sign at the gate to send to their family they were visiting just before we discovered the unannounced gate change.**While I appreciate the voucher, I would really prefer to have this in cash. I prefer not to fly United again if at all possible. I’m sorry to say this but it was just such an upsetting situation and bad experience.*-Dorothy Schafer
