I ordered a Chicken Basket from Poorboy's Cajun Kitchen at *:** pm on June **, **** on the Uber Eats app on my phone. My order number was *D***, and I was staying in Room ***C in Campus Village C for a McNair Scholars Boot Camp. As I ordered my food and I was about to finalize the order, I realized that I had not wrote my room number nor the address of the campus village on my order. I immediately called the restaurant and the host gave me the phone number of my Uber Eats driver, Li, which was ** (***) ***-****. I called her and upon conversing with her, I realized that she could not speak English proficiently. She then began texting me in Chinese to ensure that my location was correct. Through utilizing Google Translate, I tried to text her in Chinese to inform her that I lived in the student housing community and that my location was inaccessible to her car. Li next began asking me (still in Chinese) if I was at * Washington Square, San Jose, CA, though when I typed in the address, it was based in Santa Clara (the address of SJSU is * Washington Square). She then asked if I was at ** Washington Square which continued to not show up on my phone. I called her to keep asking her where she was going to drop off the food, and she would not answer. To make the situation easier for her, I texted her letting her know I would be across the street from Sammy G's so that we would be more accessible to one another. She actually went to a dead-end street in the middle of the campus and upon seeing her car's location on the app, I ran to the direction of the street and called her to let her know I was on my way. She said "okay", and took off from the university within a minute. I called her and she did not respond, so I called the restaurant and explained the situation, and asking if I could pick it up at the restaurant. However, I realized that it was *:** pm and the restaurant was based in Santa Clara and I wouldn't be able to make it to the restaurant in time before it closed at *:** pm. Next, I called again and asked for my refund to save time and I was advised to contact Uber Eats. About ** minutes later, I got a phone call from Li's phone number and answered it. The person who was on the other line was a customer service associate from Uber Eats who then informed me that the call was being recorded and asked me what was going on between Li and I. After I finished explaining, the agent informed me that Li had actually got into a car accident and that she was okay. She then thanked me for my time, and our call ended. I next received * text messages from Li stating "Because you kept changing positions, my car was hit in the **th district" and "Your meal is still in my car, you take it yourself". I actually still have the text messages saved on my phone. I wanted to bring into your attention this little incident since the fee that people pay is supposed to ensure that even when Uber Eats is busy in certain areas, you can still get the food you want when you want it as well as for future references and better service.
