Hello there! I have been married for ** years and have filed taxes jointly with spouse (used to do IT work b*). Spouse has always shown my * kids as his dependents- even though I paid for daycare, our (kids and me) health insurance, all our necessary expenses- including medication, clothes, groceries.** years ago, I was laid off from the IT company (I worked for * years) and discovered spouse had extramarital relationship with maternal cousin-since beginning of marriage.*Anyway, I'm stuck in this marriage now-for the sake of my kids- trust me, waiting to leave as soon as situation permits!*Few years ago, when I spoke to a tax agent at Walmart to file separately and show my sons as dependent- I was told- I cannot do so-spouse already shows them as dependents- and it cannot be changed in the system.**I have worked from home after the lay-off from the IT company (for my sons)-babysitting, teaching, selling- payment in cash, check, etc.*This October'****, I started a seasonal at-home online job for Best Buy support. I do not want to file taxes jointly with spouse anymore. **I am currently paying state and Medicare taxes via the seasonal job. However, I filed tax exempt for federal tax - based on the fact that I am a seasonal employee, received IRS refund amount of $***(fixed amount paid by spouse to me every year we filed- no matter how much my yearly earnings were) in ****.*My question here is- if I file separately being married (spouse will probably continue to show me and my kids as dependents to benefit monetarily) on this seasonal job:**.do I have to file for federal tax return?**.do I have to file for only state and Medicare tax return?**.how do I specify I am a seasonal employee? which form do I fill out to do so?**.what happens if I’m still married and file separately?**For info, my gross income for ****(from September- December'****) for the seasonal job will be approximately $ ****.** and I have also paid for both state (Virginia) and Medicare taxes.*According to spouse, he will file divorce after * years (when older son is **- not sure why this timeframe:)*please assist me with the above questions*I appreciate your time to read this and thank you*Sincerely,*Farhanaz******@***.com
