The issue in GetHuman-ncwoodwo's own words
I received your offer to pay for the compressor replacement but I’m not sure you understand my concerns. The system was installed *n ********* and the compressor was replaced on *********. The unit had not been working properly for several weeks prior to that and it was my fault for not calling sooner to have it checked. I assumed my one-year service contract spring checkup would find any problems. As far as the compressor replacement is concerned the technician determined that one of the valves was defective (doesn’t my unit have a scroll compressor which has no valves) and it would cost $*,**.** to replace it. They did lower it to $***.** a couple days later. After changing the compressor, the unit ran about * days before failing again. Another technician came out and said it may have not been charged correctly. He proceeded to charge using electronic gauges and made sure the sub cooling was correct.* Three days later the unit failed again, and I called them out once more to repair it. I believe this was on a Friday and he said it must be the indoor coil that was leaking, and he would top off the charge to get me through the weekend. He told me they would order a new coil. I asked how much that would cost and he wasn’t sure and would let me know Monday. I called Blackwell Monday morning and told them not to do anything until I talked to American Standard Consumer Relations. I then also called another American Standard dealer to come out and check the coil to confirm it was leaking and he told me he could hear it hissing. On August *st Blackwell changed the indoor coil free of charge and the unit was working again. During this time the only response I received from Trane American Standard Consumer Relations is that they were looking into the complaint and was now at an elevated state.* The unit was working about * days and then it suddenly stopped. Nothing would work so I called Blackwell and they came and found the auxiliary drain pan under the unit full of water and said the safety float switch stopped the unit. They vacuumed out the auxiliary pan and blew some air thru the condensate drain line and it was working again. About * days later the same thing happened again. They vacuumed out the auxiliary pan and checked the condensate drain but could not find a problem but this time they bent the auxiliary pan and the next time it overflowed onto my hall ceiling. They then discovered the drain pan under the evaporator was cracked and leaking condensate in the main cabinet which filled up and overflowed into the auxiliary pan. They changed the plastic condensate pan and the auxiliary pan last week and everything has been working since.* My concerns are: **. The compressor did not need to be replaced.**. The air handling unit had condensate leaking into it for several weeks or longer and has probably already started to rust.**. The electrical components in the air handling unit have been compromised.**. The refrigeration system has been contaminated and will be prone to premature failure. **. No confidence the system will work another year or two without a major failure.*The least I expect is a full coverage warranty for the next ** years to cover parts and labor.
