While arranging a large donation in September, there were multiple rescheduled appointments and confusion about the number of pick-ups required. Upon finally arriving, The Salvation Army coincided with a moving company, causing a mix-up. Among the donated items was Wii equipment, including controllers, a wheel, games, 10 pairs of 3D glasses, and personal belongings. Despite efforts to locate the missing items valued at over $[redacted], The Salvation Army's response was unsympathetic. This experience has led us, along with family and friends, to reconsider future donations to the organization. Any suggestions on how to retrieve the lost possessions would be welcomed. Thank you.

Hello, my name is Lela Cintron. I recently reached out to my local Salvation Army in Elgin about utility assistance. After meeting with Kaitlyn, she mentioned they would review my situation with a committee to determine eligibility for assistance with my ComEd bill. Unfortunately, I was later informed that I did not meet the criteria due to not being considered an emergency and advised to spend less. As a mother of three who works part-time due to health issues, I rely on child support and SNAP benefits to cover my rent, struggling to make ends meet. Despite seeking help annually from LIHEAP, unexpected school expenses left me unable to keep up with utility payments. Feeling humbled to ask for assistance, the advice given in the voicemail left me frustrated, especially given my financial hardships and family support. I hope this feedback sheds light on my experience with the Elgin Salvation Army office on Douglas Ave. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Lela Cintron

Hello, my name is Lela Cintron, and I recently reached out to my local Salvation Army in Elgin for utility assistance. After meeting with Kaitlyn, she reviewed my finances but unfortunately informed me that I did not qualify for aid as it was not deemed an emergency situation. I was advised to spend less, which was disheartening, considering my struggles. I have three children, work part-time due to health issues, and barely cover my rent with a portion of child support and SNAP benefits. I rarely shop for anything other than necessities and often rely on my family's help to make ends meet. The voicemail's suggestion to cut back on spending was hurtful as I'm already financially strained. I shared my difficult situation to highlight the unhelpful advice I received from the Salvation Army office in Elgin. Thank you for your attention. Sincerely, Lela Cintron

I have been receiving assistance from the Salvation Army for a while. As a single mother of eight, I recently went to the location on Sixth and Quarry with my children for the gift giveaway due to my Lupus. Unfortunately, I encountered a heavyset man who treated me unfairly. I felt discriminated against as one of the few black women among many Hispanics seeking help. I presented Social Security cards for eight of my nine children but faced difficulties. Despite dealing with the challenges of my disease and not owning a vehicle, his lack of empathy was disheartening, especially during the holiday season. I hope the Salvation Army can ensure no family or single mother experiences such mistreatment again. Thank you, Geneva Cook.

Regarding Pick Up in Staten Island, NY [redacted] I had a negative experience with the Salvation Army driver, who was rude and displayed a poor attitude when he visited on 11/9/18 and 11/16/18. He refused to pick up our furniture donations, claiming they were not made of wood. This caused distress to my elderly parents-in-law, with my mother-in-law even taking days off work, incurring a cost of $[redacted]. This driver's behavior appears discriminatory based on language or nationality. The Salvation Army office in Staten Island is aware of multiple complaints against this driver but continues to send him out for donation pickups. I request that the Salvation Army promptly collect the items and take appropriate action against the driver. Thank you.

I would like to speak with an officer. I recently used the Food Pantry Services provided by the Salvation Army in my area and now need to report an incident/assault to the City Police. Unfortunately, an employee (who refused to give their name) started shouting profanities, including using God's name in vain, and was very disrespectful towards me. I felt threatened and feared for my safety. The situation escalated over a misunderstanding with the worker regarding the bread distribution. The behavior of the employee was completely ungodly and lacked compassion or dignity. This experience has been eye-opening about the Salvation Army's practices in my area. I feel the need to file a police report. I am disappointed by the way individuals are treated at this Salvation Army location in Wausau, Wisconsin, and feel that bias and discrimination are prevalent. The food giveaways are poorly organized and unjust, with limited items given out unfairly. I hope to see positive change in how individuals are treated. Heartbroken in Wausau, Wisconsin. Thank you for any help.

To the relevant party, I had an unpleasant encounter with Quinton, the manager at the Belton, MO donation center on 3-29-[redacted]. I arrived to donate several items, carefully sorted into boxes: 8 brand new coffee mugs, 13 books, 9 stainless steel serving trays, an iPod, an iHome, and a mix of household items. Quinton was reluctant, stating that small toys could clutter the store and that my items were unwanted. Despite my attempts to show the quality of my donations, he dismissed them, claiming they couldn't be sold. He mentioned a nonexistent list for acceptable items and was rude throughout the interaction. I have supported your organization for years but will no longer donate at the Belton location due to this disrespectful treatment. Thank you for your attention. Julianne

My name is Robert, currently staying at [redacted] Packard Rd, Ann Arbor, MI [redacted] since April 24th, [redacted]. My experience here has been positive, except for an incident on April 30th when I woke early. I found an employee, Carlos, asleep on the couch in the living room. Although I didn't mind, he became upset when I used the TV and later when I asked to smoke outside and make coffee. He was unprofessional and rude, raising his voice at me. When I inquired about making a formal complaint, he directed me to speak with Tyrone or Eric. I felt his behavior was unwarranted and wanted to report it to Salvation Army for review. I appreciate your attention to this matter. Thank you for your support.

The Salvation Army store at [redacted] South 3rd Avenue does not have air conditioning. While the captain enjoys A/C, the employees work without it. With temperatures often exceeding 90 degrees Fahrenheit and reaching over [redacted] degrees on particularly hot days, it is concerning that the staff have to endure such extreme conditions. The lack of proper cooling and ventilation makes it unsafe and inhumane for both employees and customers. The store only relies on a few fans circulating warm air since there are no windows for natural ventilation. This situation is a disaster waiting to happen, as someone could fall seriously ill or even die from heat exhaustion. The lack of empathy from the captain is evident, and it seems that the leadership has neglected the well-being of those working and shopping there. Employees are hesitant to voice their concerns due to fear of retaliation, so it is crucial that someone steps in to address this pressing issue.

I encountered a hot water leak that affected our water and electric bills without our knowledge due to its location inside a wall. The water company kindly credited a portion of the bill, understanding it was not our fault. Unfortunately, the electric company offered no assistance. Despite explaining my reliance on oxygen for sleeping and sometimes while awake, emphasizing the life-threatening consequences if disconnected, they are proceeding with disconnection. My doctor is willing to confirm this vital information, yet the electric company remains unyielding. They are now demanding an immediate payment of $[redacted].00, threatening to terminate services. We had a payment arrangement, which was unexpectedly altered to an unmanageable amount. Is there any chance someone from your office could advocate on our behalf? If you are unable to assist, could you recommend an alternative course of action? It is distressing that a company could jeopardize the life support of two elderly disabled individuals. Your prompt attention to this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for offering your support. - Suzan Woodruff.

My name is Glenn Folsom. I reside at [redacted] Poplar Street, Garnet Valley, PA [redacted]. I had a furniture pick-up scheduled for 11/21 between 8 AM and 4 PM with confirmation number WIL316992. Unfortunately, the pick-up team did not show up despite assurances over the phone at 3:00 and 4:00 that they would. Following a call this morning, I was informed they couldn't make it and had other deliveries scheduled. I am disappointed that I wasn't prioritized for the next scheduled pick-up due to the prior missed appointment. I eagerly await information on my rescheduled date. I have been a loyal supporter of the Salvation Army with consistent contributions to the Good Neighbor Energy Fund. Please address this issue promptly to restore my trust in the Salvation Army. Revised procedures for rescheduling missed pick-ups are necessary to avoid inconveniencing donors. Thank you, Glenn Folsom.

I visited the Salvation Army Crossroads at [redacted] 29th Street in Denver, Colorado. I have been homeless for 9 months and had no money for food. When I went there seeking help, the staff ignored me and were rude. They didn't even bother to ask what I needed. This experience left me feeling neglected and disrespected. It's disappointing how the Salvation Army treated me. I felt like they only care about helping certain individuals. I will be reaching out to the Mayor of Denver to report this incident. The conditions at the Salvation Army Crossroads were unacceptable, and they failed to provide basic assistance like a meal or shelter.

I am reaching out from Walsenburg, Colorado concerning a homeless individual in our downtown area near Highway [redacted], across from the 7-Eleven store. The man is in dire need of assistance as the recent temperatures have been unbearably cold. Despite some community members providing food and water, this is not a sustainable solution. It is concerning that despite local authorities being aware of the situation, no action has been taken to address it. We urgently require help to provide shelter, potentially medical aid, and supportive services for this individual. Huerfano County lacks resources for the homeless, making it crucial for outside assistance to intervene. The thought of him enduring harsh conditions alone is distressing. Please, could someone offer aid promptly? Thank you for your help.

I visited the Markham store on Thursday, April 14, after 3 pm. I selected a couple of items and proceeded to pay. To my disappointment, I was informed that the price on a scarf was incorrect. The supervisor claimed that it was due to a new employee’s error and lack of time to oversee their work. This particular employee has made me uncomfortable before, checking my items closely and making excuses about pricing errors. This store seems to consistently blame pricing issues on training and volunteer staff. I have raised my concerns with the manager but was met with dismissive responses and told not to involve the police. I am considering taking my business elsewhere to avoid such treatment. I feel that the supervisor's behavior towards me may be influenced by prejudice, considering I am visibly Muslim. I await your response on this matter and will explore other shopping options to avoid harassment and excuses. It is worth noting that in all my years of shopping at Value Village, I have never encountered such pricing discrepancies. Thank you.
