Location LAX airport *, International terminal, Starbucks Adjacent to gate ***. Wednesday *th November, ****.*I am a flight attendant from the UK, on the above date at the above location I was at the store to purchase a coffee. There are * points to my complaint. First and most importantly is a statement made by one of the staff on the cash register taking orders, I have a metal Starbucks beaker, I have this so as to not take a paper cup thus doing my bit to reduce plastic waste to our planet. I presented my cup, clean, with the lid removed and was told “we don’t touch those” by the cashier, I asked why and was told it was not hygienic as it hadn’t been sterilised, I pointed out that the paper $** bill probably had more germs on it than my clean metal cup, the next response from the staff member is totally disgraceful, she told me that a Starbucks member had got AIDS from a cup! What kind of statement is that?! I was totally humiliated and angry. I felt like I was being told I had Aids, that I am contagious, what if I did, or someone know to me have Aids. I was horrified. Many customers waiting in the long queue with me also stated their shock and horror that such a statement was being made.*I have been using Starbucks in many cities, hotels and airports all over the world, I have always been able to hand over my clean reusable mug, minus the lid, to have it filled and have never encountered this problem before. Please clarify the policy regarding customers re using their Starbucks mugs, purchased at Starbucks. If you cannot refil them without the customer having to have their coffee served to them in a paper mug only to have to decant it into their own mug, sold. by you to promote a greener planet, what is the point!*Your staff should be better educated about AIDS and hygiene standards, plus all of your stores should have a consistent policy regarding reusable mugs. Maybe the staff member could do with some training regarding discrimination laws too.*I was also like to know your policy on the recycling of your paper cups.
