Help with my Staples Product Support issue

New HP desktop & data transfer made at Staples.*Windows won't recognize external backup drive.*Drive is functioning properly.*Call to you earlier: "leave * for call back when tech is available"* Call back: on hold for * hour & got cut off* told to call back later* asked to take a survey on service.*Place of purchase said bring computer back.*I found the problem*solution online, but not confident to attempt.*Staples tech will be in Friday & is supposed to call between * & ** a.m.
