The issue in GetHuman-graysonq's own words
Dear Netflix:** As a woman and a person of this generation, I am deeply offended by the blatant romanticized abuse found within, “The Kissing Booth”. It is not only a terrible example of a healthy relationship, but it is being advertised to young adults as a romantic comedy. The influence of such a movie is horrible and incredibly degrading. I am profoundly disappointed in the fact that Netflix chose to produce this story and will possibly come out with a sequel. Romanticizing abuse is never okay, it’s more detrimental because it is being shown to young audiences.* The male love interest, Noah Flynn, displays numerous abusive behaviors including possessiveness. He threatens the guys at their school and around Elle to stay away from her. The primary memories Elle have of Noah are him getting into fights. Noah is constantly fighting, and it is an absolute mystery how he got into Harvard because of it. Toward the end of the movie, Elle gets hurt in the garage and while Noah is cleaning the wound, his younger brother, her best friend, walks into the room and assumes he did it. I know my sibling very well* most people do, and the fact, that he immediately accuses Noah is very telling. Elle at one point tells Noah to leave* he doesn’t, he gets angry to the point that he slams his fist on the hood of the car. That anger is directed at her and can easily become physical abuse. She does get in the car only because she thought he was going to take her home. He doesn’t, they have ***.* “The Kissing Booth” is not a feminist movie either. Elle is constantly treated like an object by her best friend* an example taken from the moment Noah’s little brother tells Elle why he is so upset about their relationship, “You were the one thing I had that he didn’t.” There are horrible tropes including the ‘takes off clothes whenever they get the chance’, as well as underage drinking, where her supposed best friend does nothing to stop her or help her. * There are many other disgusting things about this movie, but I only have so much time and room. Please consider canceling the sequel and taking down the movie. It may have made you a lot of money, but it is completely unethical and immoral to allow young adults who don’t know much about relationships to be subject to this romanticized abuse.**Sincerely a Disgruntled Human Bean,*Grayson Wright
