I recently had the following PROBLEM with File Explorer on Windows ** (version ****). Whenever I attempted to select a MS Office file (Word, PPt, Excel), but no other file types (pdf, jpg, etc.), File Explorer would freeze* it would "not respond," Simple recovery was to quit File Explorer and reopen it. The program worked fine with non-MS Office files.**The SOLUTION: hide the Details pane. It is that simple. HOWEVER, it took me FOREVER to (a) discover, on my own, that the freeze only occurred with MS Office files, and (b) to find that others have seen this EXACT problem and have solved it. MANY websites give advice about how to "solve" File Explorer problems but VERY FEW showed any awareness of the MS Office-specific problem. **My REQUEST: PLEASE WIDELY DISSEMINATE THIS SOLUTION !! I and others have spent DAYS chased complex and useless fixes (deleting register files, using netsh winsock reset, etc.) For example, see https:**www.techadvisor.co.uk*forum*windows-***office-files-cause-explorer-crash-********* for another site that provided the solution.**Thank you.
