I called today because I was charged * overdraft fees after I had already deposited money into my checking account to cover the charges. The woman in customer service that I spoke with told me that she was not allowed to remove the fees because I had already had multiple fees removed from my account. Those "multiple fees" that she was referring to was included in Pandemic relief months ago, when I was currently barely making income. I asked her what the guidelines were for a situation like this, because that didn't make much sense to me. She proceeded to tell me that she would not give me the guidelines, and concluded the call. I am very unimpressed. If I am understanding this correctly, not only was I charged fees after money was put in my account to cover the charges, but now those fees can not be removed because I had multiple fees removed months ago during a global pandemic. It has been a pretty difficult year financially for many of us, and I find it hard to compromise with handing over $*** in fees to a corporation that makes billions while I struggle. I understand that the fee reversal has been helpful in the past, but it would almost be inhumane not to during a situation like that. All of my charges have been covered by me. I do not owe any debt to M&T bank. I'm not quite sure how relief during a global pandemic has anything to do with my current situation. If there is no resolution to this issue, I have no choice but to close my account and use a bank that has a little more regard for their customers.
This was especially frustrating for two reasons: A) I covered the charges before I was charged fees. B) M&T should not offer relief during a pandemic if they are going to hold that relief against you down the road.
They could make this right by reversing the fees & giving me my money back since I covered the charges before I received the fees.
I've already tried calling customer service.
