My husband and I are VERY disappointed in the Kroger Customer Service or lack thereof... we have a very busy schedule on Mondays but my husband likes to do the grocery shopping on Monday nights. We always stop at the Kroger off M** in White Lake, Michigan. We stopped last night, shopped for about an hour and had EASILY over $*** worth of groceries in our cart. Obviously, we were not looking to go through the self-scan. Those are great when you have a few items, NOT when you have an entire cart (and then some) of items to scan and bag. Also, we don’t get paid to scan and bag items whereas, Kroger employees do! That is their job and what they do there. There was an employee scanning a “customer’s” items but her light is off. We went over to her line and she obviously “knew” this customer. Seemed like the “customer” was another employee as multiple employees were standing there talking to her. We asked if she could please stay open for us as we did not want to go through the self-scan with a cart full of groceries. She said “nope, talk to my manager. I’m taking my break when I’m done with her.” The “customer” also chimed in which DID NOT help the situation as we were already very frustrated and be treated poorly. I went to a young lady at the self checkout and asked her if she could hop on a register to check us out. She said she was sorry and that she couldn’t. She said she just asked her manager for another customer that asked for a register to be opened and her manager said no. I asked who her manager was and she pointed to a lady standing at the customer service desk. My husband was already talking to her at this point and she was not going to help us out. She was very short with us and just stated that someone could “help” us go through the self-scan. I said “we don’t need help. We just want someone to get on an actual register so we can buy our groceries and go home.” I said, “please, is there anyone that can check us out? Can you?” She refused and just said that she couldn’t do anything for us. Unbelievable!! We said, “listen, we are not going through the self-checkout so if no one will ring us up, we will leave the cart FULL of groceries.” (Not to mention, my husband holds a grudge so we will most likely stop shopping at Kroger as well.) She responded by saying, “I understand. Sorry, but there’s nothing I can do for you.” So we left. Now, I feel like if we were an employee or an ex-employee, they would have made an exception and had someone ring us up, which is SO WRONG. Also, what ever happened to CUSTOMER SERVICE?! It’s like it doesn’t exist at Kroger anymore. This isn’t the first time something like this has happened. We have walked out before. There was one time that my husband left and I just bought a few things through the self-checkouts but there were so many shoppers still last night that I would have even been waiting for a self-checkout station. Multiple customers walked up asking if there was a normal register open. There should ALWAYS be at least * normal register open. Older people, handicapped people, people who have carts full of groceries, shouldn’t be EXPECTED to ring up their own groceries! Self-checkouts should be a convenience for those who want to use that or get out quickly! It should NOT be the ONLY option. It’s absolutely absurd! My husband now wants us to just shop at ALDI’s and Mejiers and although I’m fine with that, I am still very upset because Kroger has some products that I tend to like more. Plus, there’s the Kroger points for gas but because of principle, I will NOT shop there until these wrongs have been corrected. I feel like Kroger and it’s employees are just LAZY and don’t care about it’s customers at all. It should absolutely be mandatory for Kroger to have at least one regular register open at all times!
GetHuman-rachmuel did not yet indicate what Kroger should do to make this right.
