The issue in GetHuman831299's own words
John Deere *** lawn tractor, **hp diesel. Started engine and lost a half gallon of fuel or more out of the tank vent line. Pretty steady stream of fuel for a minute or two. It's been mysteriously losing fuel occasionally this spring & summer and last night I finally saw where it came from, out the tank vent line. Tonight, I filled the tank back up to the top, started it and nothing came out. I've had this tractor * years and it's always run great. All I can figure is the line off the top of the engine is pushing something (air? fuel?) back into the tank causing fuel to come out the vent. Tank has * lines - the vent, the supply to the fuel pump and the other one that goes to the top of the engine, and I don't know what that one does. Maybe at times, fuel needs to go back to the tank? Maybe it adds air to give some pressure to the tank to help push fuel out to the pump? I'm a reasonable handyman, but don't know much about diesel engines.
GetHuman831299 did not yet indicate what John Deere should do to make this right.
I have an issue with John Deere too
