My daughter and I were traveling home from Aruba on fly **** on ******. The plane was having "routine maintenance" when we arrived at the airport....this maintenance went on and on for hours....the flight was approx * Hours delayed. When we got on the plane, the maintenance people continued to come on and off the plane, going in and out of the cockpit, on their phones and there seemed to be a great deal of concern!*We were becoming more and more worried about flying on this plane, and were deciding whether or not to stay on this flight....I saw one of the pilots and went to speak to him. He told me that this was NOT NORMAL...that all planes are allowed a certain amount of failures on the "routine inspection", but this plane had ALOT OF ISSUES, and in his opinion it would be grounded when it reaches JFK for a complete overhaul!*Well this HORRIFIED me, and I told him that...and he said that he would not be on this flight if he didn't think it would be ok...and that we would be ok.*I very hesitantly returned to my seat and my daughter and I decided to trust him and we remained on the plane. *When we took off, the engines sounded as if they were struggling...we smelt a strong burning smell...after going up a little...all of a sudden I saw on the MAP on the tv screen that we were LOOSING ALTITUDE AND SPEED..both kept going down down DOWN....WE TRUELY THOUGHT WE WERE GOING TO DIE IN A CRASH IN THE SEA! I prayed the rosary and my daughter's whole body was trembling uncontrollably!!! We heard a loud noise...we were only going like ***mph and altitude was maybe **,*** *..we prayed and prayed and PRAYED as we CLUNG TO EACHOTHER....and soon I heard the engines crank up power and I saw the altitude and the speed begin to rise ... I watched intensely and kept praying that we kept climbing ... we did and finally reached *****-*****-feet and *** mph and the pilot came on and said that obviously there was an issue ... he had to lower the landing gear to "cool down" something (hence the burning smell) etc...*I don't need to tell you we were terrified the WHOLE FLIGHT...*Thank the Good Lord we arrived in JFK safely and were so shooken and just wanted to get home.. we took our * pieces of luggage from the carousel but we forgot to take our garment bag.*We got home very very late that night and collapsed...the next day we realized that we forgot the other bag...called and were told we had to either GO to JFK and get it or PAY $** to have it delivered! We were just too plain SHOT to even entertain the idea of driving to the airport (which is and hour drive from our home) so we angrily agreed to pay the $** and have the bag driven out to us.*We would expect some sort of compensation for ALL THIS UPSET AND INCONVENIENCE.*What are you going to do?
