My 89-year-old mother residing at 27 Taymouth Road has continuously received correspondence addressed to JM Marshall, referencing 63[redacted]8. Despite my efforts to return these letters indicating "not known at this address - return to sender," the issue persists. I recently opened a letter dated 6 April [redacted] in search of contact details, only to find unanswered phones. It is concerning that after multiple returns, the records have not been updated to remove JM Marshall from my mother's address. I am requesting confirmation via email that this error has been rectified, ensuring no further letters are sent to her under this name. As acting under power of attorney for my mother, I expect a resolution within 7 working days, or I will escalate the matter to her MP, given your status as a government department. Yours sincerely, Allan Cameron. [redacted].

I am wondering why I have been given the K30X tax code to collect £37.40 of underpaid tax. My teacher's pension payslip for May shows a deduction of £42.60 more tax compared to April. If this higher deduction is going to continue for the entire tax year, more than £37.40 will be collected. As a recent widow, this will result in a significantly higher tax bill for me than the previous tax year, canceling out any increase in my pension for this year. - C. K., YL845635B

Hello, A recent closure due to the pandemic resulted in my workplace needing to furlough all employees. I completed a survey from my employer confirming I was still employed. However, a few weeks later, I received a job offer from Sainsbury’s for a temporary role until things return to normal. This situation has raised concerns about tax implications. To address these issues, my workplace suggested reaching out to HMRC to clarify that my position at Sainsbury’s is temporary and restricted to 12 hours to prevent tax complications.

Hello, I am seeking assistance in understanding my current tax status and tax return situation. I held employment from [redacted] to [redacted] and have since been living on my savings. I received a tax deduction last year, but I recently worked on a freelance project in April, prompting me to consider if I should formally declare myself as self-employed. I attempted to do this on the GOV website, but encountered difficulties due to not having enough personal data available to access the necessary information. I created an account with Digidentity, which has only partly solved the issue. I hope my situation can be easily cleared up, but I am struggling to find clear information online amidst confusing content. Unfortunately, phone support is currently unavailable. Thank you, Marius G.

I recently submitted three years of tax returns and am now trying to request a refund to my personal account. After waiting 48 hours as instructed, the website keeps redirecting me to the same page. I contacted HMRC and they mentioned an issue with my class 2 national insurance, which was supposedly fixed, but I still can't proceed. HMRC reassured me they fixed the problem from their end and that I should receive the payment in 7-10 working days. When I checked, it seemed to be processed, but now I'm back to the payment request page. I am very worried as I rely on this money for living expenses, especially since I have no other source of income. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

My name is Jins P. L. I am currently employed at Tamatanga restaurant in Leicester since March 6, [redacted] under a Tier 2 visa. Prior to this, I worked at Kayal restaurant in Leicester under a Tier 2 visa and resigned on March 4, [redacted]. Due to my job change, I was unable to be furloughed. My new employer submitted the RTI to HMRC on March 25. Since March 20, [redacted], I have had no income and cannot seek another job due to my Tier 2 visa status. My wife is six months pregnant and unable to work due to COVID-19. We are facing financial difficulties and are seeking advice on accessing furlough. Your assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Jins P. L.

Hi, I recently provided my employer with my P45 to update my tax code. Even though I received my new tax code through my government gateway account, my employer still has me on the BR tax code and needs HMRC to send the new code electronically. My PAYE reference number is [redacted]/VZ56242 and my national insurance number is JJ607129B. The event sequence number is [redacted]41. I need this resolved by the 12th for my next pay. Here's what the payroll email said: "We've received a P45 for Paul via HR. Unfortunately, HMRC sent a BR tax code on February 8, [redacted], for the new tax year starting on 06/04/[redacted]. Since the code came directly from a P9 coding notice, we can't change it based on a self-declaration like a P45. Please contact HMRC at 0[redacted] with our PAYE reference number, national insurance number, and the event sequence number. They can clarify the change and provide a new code electronically by the 12th for May's payroll." Your sincerely

In [redacted], I attempted to submit my tax return online but found the process complex. With my son's help, we managed to complete it, but I lost my password the following year. Despite trying the original one, I encountered difficulties. Eventually, I had to contact hmrc to request a paper form, like I had previously used. In [redacted] and [redacted], I opted for the paper tax return to avoid online issues. Now, as I apply for the self-employed grant, I face challenges due to my past online submission. I have multiple user IDs, access codes, and passwords from my [redacted] attempt. I seek assistance to navigate through the grant application process smoothly.

Good afternoon, I am currently stranded abroad due to Covid-19, causing a delay in submitting my VAT return. Unfortunately, my return flight was canceled due to the pandemic and there are no other available flights. As the sole member of my small business, I am unable to provide the necessary paperwork to my accountants for the submission of the return. My VAT registration number is [redacted] 96. I will send the required documents to my accountants as soon as I am able to return to the UK so they can proceed with the submission. I wanted to inform you of the situation to explain the delay. Kind regards, David J Cooper, Director of Great Bridge Cars Limited.

I have a question about being furloughed. My colleagues and I were placed on furlough when cafes closed. We received official letters about being furloughed. However, our boss, who I have previously reported for questionable tax practices, is not applying for the 80% reimbursement. She manipulates the payroll system to keep some staff's universal credit unaffected. Can she legally furlough us but not follow correct procedures for pay calculation? She mentioned she can't afford the monthly wages and might bring us back on reduced hours. I'm concerned about this and our options.

Hello, I would like to inquire about the Employment Allowance. Our company uses Sage 50 Payroll software and acts as an agent for our clients. We submitted an application for EA through the software a month ago following the new guidance mentioning EA as state aid. However, we are still waiting for confirmation from HMRC. The uncertainty regarding whether we are receiving EA is causing delays for our clients. Could you clarify the process for receiving this confirmation letter? Will it be sent to the agent or client address? Also, what is the usual timeframe for receiving this letter after the application? It is essential because most of our clients do not receive any other state aid and fall below the £[redacted],[redacted] ER NI threshold. Your assistance on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, I'm reaching out regarding my Scottish Widows pension tax information needed for my tax return. I have all the necessary details in a letter since Scottish Widows doesn't provide a P60 for my account type. As for a PPI claim payout in December [redacted], I aim to reclaim the tax deducted. I previously attempted to submit a paper R40 form but suspect I may have made an error. I'm eager to provide the correct information promptly to expedite my tax return. Additionally, I prefer phone communication but was unable to reach anyone today. Should assistance with the R40 for the PPI payout be possible online, I would appreciate guidance as I couldn't locate the link on the HMRC website. Thank you. - Dido Walker

I recently received my tax code notice in January [redacted] along with a Local Government Pension payslip dated 30/04/[redacted]. I noticed a reduction of £29.05 in my LGPS income starting from 30 April [redacted]. After consulting with NY LGPS, I was advised to address the matter directly with you as they had to follow the tax code provided by HMRC. My tax code in January [redacted] was 375T with a tax-free amount of £[redacted], which was different from September [redacted] when it changed to 665T with a tax-free amount of £[redacted]. Back in January [redacted], the tax code was 668M with a tax-free amount of £6,[redacted]. My final tax code on the P60 until 5 April [redacted] is stated as 665T. I rely on my State Pension and local government pension for income as a retiree. I am inquiring about the reason behind the decrease in my monthly income and would appreciate clarification. I understand if my NI number is needed, and I can provide it upon receiving an email. Thank you for your assistance. Regards, L. MacDougall

I have run a small business named the Wishing Trio for over 5 years and it was registered as UTR [redacted]. Despite generating only £20 in revenue, I closed the business down five years ago. Each year, I have filed tax returns confirming £0.00 income. However, I recently received a letter stating that I don't need to file a tax return for [redacted]/[redacted] but must do so for the years [redacted]-16, [redacted]-17, and [redacted]-18, all of which I have already submitted with £0.00 earnings. I have tried contacting the authorities, but the phone call abruptly ends, leaving me unable to resolve this recurring issue. Despite not being self-employed and not currently engaged in any business activities, I am concerned about possible penalty charges mentioned in the letter. I kindly request assistance in resolving this matter promptly.

Subject: Assistance Needed with Tax Return Submission Dear Support Team, I hope this message finds you well. I am writing regarding my tax situation, specifically related to my rental property in the UK. Despite providing my new accountant with all the necessary information to file both my Cypriot and UK tax forms, it appears that my UK tax return has not been submitted, resulting in a £[redacted] penalty. Due to the delayed postal services caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, I only recently received the notification about the penalty. I attempted to complete a self-assessment on the government gateway but require an authorization code that is yet to arrive by post. I am hoping to expedite this process to avoid further charges. Is it possible to receive the authorization code via email? Additionally, I am seeking guidance on appealing the penalty incurred due to the delayed communication. Any assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Warm regards, G.R.

We are a company that had an employee leave on the 27th of February [redacted]. The former employee mentioned a possible issue with their tax code at their final pay meeting, and we directed them to contact HMRC. Today, on the 7th of May [redacted], we received a letter from HMRC with a new tax code for the ex-employee. We processed the final pay using the tax code we had at the time, as no notice was given. Now, with this new tax code after they left 2 months ago, we are unsure how to proceed. Despite our attempts to contact HMRC without success, we are seeking advice on how to handle this situation. Thank you for your assistance.

As an American citizen residing in the UK, I am a dual citizen. I am uncertain if I must file taxes in the USA even though I am employed and living in the UK. I currently don't have intentions to return to the USA other than for family visits. The stimulus payment has led me to question my obligations. I wish to request the stimulus not for my use but to donate it to a single mother in the UK with two children. I am employed as a care assistant at a neurological injury center, earning minimum wage that covers my living expenses. I am seeking guidance on how to proceed in this situation. Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

I am currently on furlough and have now been selected for redundancy. Should I be receiving my full pay on gardening leave, which is my normal salary, instead of being on furlough? The company is using government furlough pay for those on redundancy leave. I sought advice from ACAS, and they explained that furlough and redundancy are two different processes. Furlough is about keeping your job secure with reduced pay, whereas redundancy involves receiving payment for each year worked plus holiday entitlements. Gardening leave is when you are taken off furlough because you no longer have a job and are paid redundancy at full normal pay. I was advised that if this happens, I can take legal action. I need clarification from HMRC on whether it is correct for furlough to continue once selected for redundancy.

I received a penalty charge for late filing dated 12 February [redacted] for the tax year [redacted]/[redacted]. I don't believe I need to file a self-assessment as I was an employee, not self-employed that year. I have been attempting to update my information to access my HMRC account, but the confirmation code is sent to my old phone number. Since I moved to NZ in [redacted], I now have a NZ phone. I have tried the verification process, but my details do not seem to match, which is odd.

I received a letter from SLC requesting an update on my employment status. I recently became self-employed on 17th February and need to register to update my status. However, I do not have a UTR (unique taxpayer reference) which is required to fill in the forms. Since I have not done a tax return before, I do not have any documents with the 10-digit number on them. Could someone please assist me in registering as self-employed so that I can obtain my UTR? This way, I can complete the SLC form to declare my self-employed status. I work as a self-employed freelancer for a limited start-up company.
