**** Gateshead Drive***********N. Chesterfield**********VA ***************May **, *******North Star Surgery*Urgent Specialty Associates***** Jahnke Road*Richmond, VA *******Dear Office Manager:**On March *, ****, I had an emergency appendectomy at Chippenham Hospital, Richmond VA. Dr. Shannon Small and others from this group provided the service.**Today, I received a “collection letter” dated May **, **** from Capio Partners, Dallas TX regarding my account. I did not receive any bills until mid-May. I had to call to determine who the parties listed on the bill were and was told that the information could not be given to me. An internet search finally helped. The bill for $***.** was paid to your company with check * **** dated May **, ***** it cleared my account on May **, ****. **I am very unhappy*angry that a bill I received for the first time in mid-May was “sold” to a collection agency apparently at the same time the bill was mailed to me. It has been only ** weeks since my surgery and I did not receive any bills previously for these items. The bill was paid promptly and cleared my bank account on May **, ****.**It seems that the point of responsibility for this unethical practice lies with your office*billing department. I have never received a past due bill from any medical group let alone one from a collection agency. It is insulting and I ask that if any record of this collection action for this bill that has been put on my credit record be removed immediately with confirmation in writing mailed to me.**Saturday, May **, I received another bill for other services by Dr. Small. In trying to determine the various payers to the bill, I called Urgent Specialty Associates (who answered the phone with Xtant—whatever that is) three (*) times and never reached anyone just voice mail. I have not had a return call. I would hope that this bill has not already been sold to Capio Partners. **As a responsible patient and manager, it is important to understand all the various bills, reimbursements, etcetera that result from a hospital stay. That has been made much more cumbersome and opaque with the current trend of contracting with outside sources and using distant umbrella organizations for communication and billing.**I would appreciate an immediate response to this letter. ***Jane R.
