I have a *** amp main breaker in my **** built home. The breaker handle broke and we cannot shut the main power off if needed. We have bought a main breaker for it. We were told by a person who came out to install a new digital meter that we should contact Duke Progress Energy to see about installing the breaker we bought or to have the power off for a while to install. We would rather a Duke Power Employee do this for us if it doesn't cost a lot. Our son says he can turn his power off but his*house was built in ****. We have looked everywhere to see if we have an external way to turn off the power to do the install but our house is too old I guess. Could you tell me what I need to do. We may need to use our generator and turn off the main breaker this winter.*Thanks for your assistance.

How GetHuman1691745 fixed the problem
Called Duke Energy and was put thru to a person that said a technician needed to be scheduled to turn power off at pole. Then we were told we could replace the main breaker ourselves since they do not do that. After done we were to call them to get someone to come out and turn the power back on. We opted to wait to do this but now we know exactly what to do in the future. (Hope this was helpful)
