My ** year old daughter and I (I am a ** year old woman) were driving a small moving van with attached car trailer cross-country to her new Air Force assignment. (Two women alone, looking for a safe place to stay). We made a reservation at Days Inn Benbrook, Texas, on December *, ****. When we called to make the reservation, your rep pretended she was in Benbrook. And when we asked if it was a safe area of town, she rather pointedly told us Days Inn was not in the habit of having their guests stay in places that were unsafe. When we arrived, the desk clerk was quite confused and swiped my debut card several times. (We are still waiting for the fall-out from that.) Then, the first room we went to had not been cleaned. Dirty towels were heaped in the bathroom and the beds were stripped, with the dirty sheets on the desks. Our next room had been cleaned, but there were stains on the drapes, on the duvets, black mold in the shower and no bath towels. We stayed because we were exhausted and had been told almost all other hotels were booked because of a Cowboys game in nearby Dallas. The next morning, the continental breakfast was served in containers that looked like they had seen better days. As we were checking out, we noticed an odd sign on the door which said to report complaints to the city of Benbrook. We decided this situation warranted a call, so on the way out of town, we left a message. When we received a callback later, we were told that the city had four hotels and had "issues"with two of them, including the one we stayed in. The city had implemented a licensing program and was keeping a log of all complaints. Upon further discussion, we learned that this hotel was infamous for having somehow become a mecca for drug transactions and prostitution. Now...you tell me just how safe we were at that particular Days Inn. I am suprised at as well as disappointed in Days Inn. You are a trusted brand name in hotels, yet you allow this facility to continue to operate in your name and possibly endanger innocent travelers. And your reservations rep was disdainful when we asked about safety!? Needless to say, we stayed at a competitor the next leg of our journey, despite it being slightly more expensive. We figured safety was worth the extra money. It will be a while before we book at a Days Inn again, if ever. And I am not sure we would ever be able to comfortably recommend the chain to anyone else. We know not all of your properties are like the one in Benbrook. But, we have no way of knowing which ones are or aren't safe for two women alone on the road. We feel it is your responsibility to guarantee the suitability of your properties when we stay with you. We would like to suggest that you implement some sort of better monitoring program to ensure nothing worse than what happened to us (a close brush with danger in our eyes) occurs with any other customers.
