Date: May 11th, [redacted] To: Craigslist Executives Jim Buckmaster, CEO Craig Newmark, CFO [redacted] 9th Ave San Francisco, California [redacted] Dear Sirs, I am writing to express my concern about unlicensed individuals advertising and providing plumbing services on Austin (TX) Craigslist. As per the Texas Occupations Code, Title 8, Chapter [redacted], Section [redacted].[redacted] (9-a), individuals offering such services are required to be Texas Responsible Master Plumbers. Craigslist only requires a $5.00 fee per ad, allowing unlicensed individuals to profit from illegal activities. This practice negatively impacts law-abiding licensed Texans and consumers who may receive substandard work. I have documented evidence of these illicit advertisements with screenshots and intend to file a formal complaint with the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners against Craigslist. If necessary, I will escalate the issue to the State Attorney General's Office or the Governor of Texas. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Sincerely,

I received an email from a scammer regarding a house listing on Craigslist. The person identified as "Chase John" and used the email address [redacted] The listing was for a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom house at [redacted] S [redacted] E UNIT 48, St. George, UT [redacted], priced at $[redacted] a month. Upon contacting him, I received replies with overly personal information. After filling out a rental application form, the individual responded with a peculiar message claiming to be a "Born Again Christian" and emphasizing honesty as a religious principle. This correspondence seemed unsettling. Subsequently, I noticed that the house listing had been removed from Craigslist.

I wanted to share my experience regarding an email scam I encountered through a house listing on Craigslist. The person behind this scam identified himself as Chase John, with the email address [redacted] The listing was for a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom house at [redacted] S [redacted] E UNIT 48 St. George, UT [redacted]. Upon initial contact, he shared personal information about his sick daughter to appeal to my sympathy. However, his subsequent messages became unsettling and manipulative, insisting on trust without allowing me to see the property first. Feeling uncomfortable, I took action by blocking his email and reporting it as a scam. This encounter left me feeling uneasy, and I urge others to be cautious of any communication from Chase John. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Hello, I reached out to a seller about purchasing Champions League tickets. We communicated via email and phone and arranged to meet tonight. However, I have not received the address as his phone appears to be out of order. The seller's Craigslist ID is [redacted] and the reference email is [redacted] His name is James. Is there another way to reach him? Can you please email him using an alternative account? I requested him to remove the ad, which he did, so everything seemed legitimate. Kind regards, Suresh

I saw an ad for a [redacted] Toyota Camry on Craigslist in Columbia, MO for $[redacted] with low mileage of [redacted] miles. Jennifer O., claiming to be the owner, contacted me via Gmail, explaining she got the car from her recent divorce and had moved to a new city. She mentioned using eBay Motors for the financial transaction, where I was instructed to buy eBay cards for $[redacted] each, totaling $[redacted], and provide the confirmation codes. Everything appeared legitimate with eBay branding, a contract, and confirmation numbers. However, they later demanded an additional $[redacted], which raised my suspicions. When I tried to confront the agent, he became irate and cursed at me in Arabic. My wife and I, not very savvy with computers, trusted them, and we are now out $[redacted] we had saved up. My wife is unwell, and I wanted to surprise her with a reliable car. We are on a fixed income, and this loss is significant for us. It is disheartening how we fell victim to such individuals.

I submitted a request to post a housing ad on Craigslist. Upon receiving a subsequent email with further instructions and a link, I clicked on it but encountered issues receiving the verification code. Despite multiple attempts, the code did not come through. I have confirmed that my phone number is accurate, yet I'm still not receiving the verification code. I would appreciate any assistance in resolving this matter. What steps should I take next? Thanks.

I posted an ad on Craigslist looking for a "roommate." However, I keep receiving emails from individuals asking me to sign up for an account on Roomster. It's frustrating because I didn't mention Roomster in my ad, and it seems like Roomster advertisers are restricted from doing so. The emails I receive either have a fake picture with a Roomster email address or a robotic response when I reply to the ad, all with similar wording. Craigslist should address this issue promptly as it's incredibly frustrating and disappointing.

I have tried posting in Vermont's missed connections section, but my posts keep getting flagged and removed. Despite not violating any Craigslist policies, someone seems to be targeting me. I suspect it's due to homophobia. I'm considering reaching out to my brother, a senior attorney in the Attorney General's office in DC, the next time my post is flagged. It's frustrating to see straight posts that are actually obscene not getting flagged. Here is the content of my removed post: "M2M (Windsor VT) We've connected a couple of times in the past. You're straight and I'm not, but it was fun. I still host at my place and would love to see you again. As always, NSA and nothing expected in return." Please point out exactly which part of my message violated Craigslist's policy. Keep in mind that there are other posts that are truly obscene and graphic, like one advertising explicit activities involving a man's wife, which have not been removed.

Hello, I received a response to my post that seems questionable. Here is the email and email address: Email: [redacted] They are expressing interest in buying the item and offering an additional $70 for a quick sale. They mentioned sending a certified check via FedEx courier and requested personal information to send the payment. The buyer mentioned arranging for pick-up once the check clears due to work and family commitments. The email signed off mentioning satisfaction with the item and prompt payment. Original email sent to me: From: Ellice Lacerda <[redacted]> Message: Hi Joseph, the tools are still available for $[redacted] or best offer. Let me know if you are interested in viewing them.

My husband inquired about a boat on Craigslist, and the supposed "owner" directed him to purchase eBay cards to pay for it. Despite being shown fake eBay emails, she claimed the boat was in Charlotte due to a divorce, offering it at an unrealistically low price. After he discovered the same boat listed for $8,[redacted] more elsewhere, he reported the scam to eBay. Be cautious, as he encountered another suspiciously cheap boat listing. The scammer used the name Marie Huber, claiming to be the SVP Legal Affairs at eBay. We have saved the emails and phone numbers for reference. It's important to share this to prevent others from falling victim to similar scams.

It is stated on Craigslist that animals cannot be posted for sale, but rehoming fees are acceptable. It is frustrating that some posts are flagged while many others go unnoticed. On platforms like Facebook and Craigslist, pet stores are allowed to sell animals, sourced from puppy mills, with health certificates - a double standard. Allowing select sellers to post animals contrasts with restricting individuals who want to find loving homes for their pets. It seems essential for anyone posting to ensure the pets' health with a state-issued health certificate. Fairness in the policies is crucial for all users who wish to share their animals in need of new homes.

I was shocked to see that this page is still active. I wanted to report it, but there appears to be no flagging option available. The individual selling tickets is misrepresenting themselves and does not possess the tickets as claimed. These actions are deceitful, reminiscent of the Fyre Festival debacle. It's disheartening that there isn't a more robust system in place to protect users from such incidents. The seller, who goes by the name of Donald Raymond and can be reached at [redacted], scammed me out of $[redacted] by not delivering the promised tickets. Despite my efforts to report this to both banks, the ad remains online. I urge Craigslist to address this issue promptly, refund the $[redacted], and block the user and their IP address to prevent others from falling victim to this scam.

While searching on Craigslist for a motorhome, I came across a seller who claimed to work through eBay. They instructed me to purchase eBay cards for a transaction. After receiving a suspicious email with a fake eBay website, I contacted eBay and discovered it was a scam. The next day, I found another listing for a 5th wheeler and noticed the same scammer’s ID number. I am now hesitant to trust Craigslist due to the increasing number of scams. If needed, I still have the email correspondence from these scammers who are still active on the website.

I am concerned about a fraudulent rental listing on Craiglist for my house. Someone posted it at a lower rate than the legitimate listings, attracting students and attempting to collect money in advance. A lady from VRBO reached out to verify its legitimacy, and it's clear that it's a scam. I never posted it on Craiglist, and now people are still being misled even though it's not available for rent. I have the phone number of the scammer, which is for texting only. I kindly ask for your assistance in flagging the fake listing and taking action against this person. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

On a London sales website, there is an Apple Mac Book 12" 256GB [redacted] listed for £[redacted]. Last Saturday, I reached out to Mr. Michael Wyatt regarding the purchase. We agreed on a price of £[redacted] plus £10 for next-day tracked and insured postage. After transferring £[redacted] to his account, I confirmed the details. However, despite his promise of prompt delivery, I have not received the item. I have tried to contact Mr. Wyatt through email, texts, and calls but have not received any response, which is concerning. Upon further investigation, discrepancies have arisen between the address provided and the bank details. The ad shows Charnwood Avenue, Derby, but the bank's sort code traces back to Chatham, Kent. Additionally, the email address provided does not match his bank account name. Given my previous experience with fraud, I am anxious about this transaction, especially since it involved my son's hard-earned money. I urge the website to intervene and address this matter promptly. I have already contacted the National Westminster Bank for guidance, and I request a case number for further communication. I await a resolution and appreciate your assistance. Sincerely, Mrs. Rogers

I listed a knick knack shelf for sale on Craigslist and was contacted by a person named Lottie Oneill, email: [redacted], regarding purchasing it. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a fraudulent attempt as she sent me a fake $1,[redacted] check, asking me to cash it, keep the money for the shelf, and send back the rest. My name is Brenda Prince, and you can reach me at [redacted]. I reported this to the police in my town, but I also wanted to make you aware of this issue on your platform. I value the safety of users on your site, and such fraudulent activities are concerning. Please contact me for further information. Thank you.

There are concerning ads circulating in Lincoln, NE and other areas offering high-end cars at unusually low prices. The source of these ads is traced back to Ohio. If you respond to these ads on Craigslist, you might receive a fabricated story about the seller's son being in the military or passing away in a car accident. They claim they want to sell the car to avoid memories of their loss. The sellers push for transactions through eBay, requesting payment before delivering the vehicle to your address. Although the cars advertised look appealing, the prices are suspiciously low. This situation warrants investigation to prevent older individuals from falling victim to such schemes. I can share the specific ad details if needed. Post ID: [redacted]. - B. Sawdon

I am having an issue with a post on Craigslist that I edited but cannot delete. Despite attempting to contact Craigslist via email multiple times, I have not received a response. The Customer Service number only leads to a recording that directs me to unhelpful web page instructions. It's frustrating to keep receiving emails from respondents even after deleting the edited post on 5/30, as the original post was dated 5/21. This ongoing situation has left me extremely disappointed with the entire process.
