I had to terminate my contractor due to poor workmanship, disagreements over the project details, and presenting material options from other projects as my only choices. Despite verbally agreeing to release me from the contract, he has not refunded the remaining advance payment or furnished an itemized account of completed tasks and associated costs.

I hired a contractor for two projects with separate contracts. On the first project, they pulled the building permit without my knowledge, used the wrong license number, didn't call for inspections, and built the structure in the wrong location. The county red-tagged it due to non-compliance. On the second project, I paid $37,[redacted] in October [redacted], but they delayed ordering materials until January [redacted]. Now they are withholding structural calculations for unpaid invoices and demanding more money for both projects. They are pressuring me, a 72-year-old man, for additional funds and have not completed the work as promised. They have taken advantage of me and are unfairly trying to collect more money without completing the projects on time. I need assistance in resolving this matter promptly so that I can fulfill my plans before it's too late. Sincerely, Debbi B. Acting on Behalf of the Client, [redacted] Email: [redacted]

I have been working as a handyman for two months, and there seems to be a lack of clear information on what handymen can and cannot do. I have come across information about the $[redacted] limit for handyman tasks, but I am unsure about the limit for projects that are not permanent components of a house, like making window boxes. I tried searching online, but I would appreciate speaking to someone knowledgeable about this. Thank you, Ed Ditzler [redacted].

We are a construction company based in California and hold a valid general contractor's license. We have a home renovation project in Oakland that involves leveling the ground by digging out 12 inches of dirt in the basement. We plan to use manual tools like shovels and wheelbarrows for this task and then transfer the dirt to a container. We are unsure of the circumstances under which an excavator license is necessary for digging beneath a house to level the soil. Can an unlicensed independent contractor perform this job, or is a licensed contractor, possibly with a C-12 classification, required? Furthermore, we are seeking clarification on whether there are specific depth requirements for the C-12 license. Since excavation involves cutting or digging into the ground, we are curious if there are guidelines on the depth of excavation allowed under this classification. Essentially, is there a maximum depth limit for excavation work? Thank you for any insights you can provide regarding these licensing and classification inquiries. Contractor License: #[redacted]

I hired BathMasters in September [redacted] to renovate my three bathrooms. They began the project in December [redacted], but encountered a code violation on the initial plans and contract due to an untreated window. So far, they have received 66% of the total amount agreed upon in the contract but are now pressuring me for additional funds before continuing the work, despite no completion of any of the three bathrooms. The company has removed sinks and countertops and is now insisting on more money, even though the sales team had already measured the master bathroom for these features. They are also demanding payment for window tempering. The owner has been unresponsive to my concerns and threats of placing liens on my property have been made.

My vehicle sustained severe damage due to inadequate safety measures left open by the city of Vista. They failed to provide me with the contractors' licenses or their license and bonding numbers needed to file a complaint with the state. The condition of the roads in Vista is appalling, and they are not upholding proper procedures. As a former general contractor with 20 years of experience, strict guidelines were enforced, unlike what is happening in Vista. I'm concerned about the lack of accountability and need to address this issue promptly with the city of Vista, California, to ensure they fulfill their obligations for safe roadways and construction practices in accordance with state regulations.

I enlisted Cal State Construction to construct a patio for me, which was supposed to include three lights. However, the lights were never installed. While signing the contract, the contractor mentioned that I should save $[redacted] a month to add to my taxes, but I didn't fully grasp the implications until they started building it. The contractor reiterated this during the job, and since then, it has doubled my house taxes, causing me to be late in payments and accrue $[redacted] in late fees. I am confused about paying through my house taxes and would like to explore if this arrangement can be changed. Unfortunately, I have been experiencing difficulties contacting the company for assistance. Thank you, Norma Horstman.

In February of this year, there was a pipe issue at my mom's house that required replacement and involved asbestos and mold. After contacting Mark Scott Construction in March, there have been various delays and excuses for the kitchen renovation to be completed. Despite assurances from the company, including the ordering of cabinets, progress has been slow. The lack of communication and prolonged inconvenience for my 96-year-old mom is frustrating. A recent plumber visit only showed minimal progress, and there has been no update from Frank Capello on the next steps. After reaching out multiple times to follow up on the delays, I have reached a breaking point and refuse to make more calls. Seeking assistance to resolve this issue as soon as possible to bring an end to the kitchen disruption.

Hello, I am writing to inquire about the licensing status of Mr. Richard J. Robinson, aged 43, from Panama City, Florida, as a contractor. I met him through Home Depot while residing in Panama City Beach, Florida, and I hired him last year to work on my condo. The project took nine months to complete, which I believe was excessive. On August 3, [redacted], I relocated to Green Valley, AZ, with Richard joining me to work on my property. Regrettably, I paid him over $33,[redacted]. He left just before Thanksgiving in a car I bought for him, promising to return soon, but has not responded to any communication attempts since. None of the work he did was satisfactory, and many projects were left unfinished or not up to code. I am an elderly, single, disabled person, and I feel taken advantage of. My friend in Green Valley, AZ, also had work done by him. There are about 23 pallets of concrete bags and blocks left unattended in my backyard, resulting in damages due to exposure to the elements. I am not seeking legal action but believe he should face consequences for his actions. Thank you, Ginger Barrett

I hired a contractor who damaged my property, specifically a valve for a water line. When I informed them about my disability to avoid any misunderstandings, the owner of the company violated my privacy rights by discussing my health issues, which is against California state law and HIPAA regulations. They wrongfully requested a letter from my doctor to continue the contract, using false concerns about my health as an excuse. The contractor failed to promptly fix the water leak, causing me financial loss, and discriminated against me for being disabled. Their actions are not only unethical but also violate the Americans with Disabilities Act. The owner's deceptive behavior, including sending someone else to handle the situation, shows their lack of integrity. I believe this company should be penalized, and their license should be revoked for disregarding important laws like HIPAA. The false claims made about my health are defamatory, and it is concerning how lightly they are taking this matter despite the serious implications of violating my rights. Thank you for listening to my concerns. - J. The company in question is Premier Renovations in Canoga Park, California.

I recently received a notice to appear at a hearing at the Attorney General's office in San Diego, California. I would like to speak with the person who requested my presence to understand the reasons behind the request and which department initiated it. Time is of the essence, but I have been facing difficulties in contacting you. Cecilia U., Phone Number: [redacted] Regarding: Non-Compliance by a Roofer in Negligence, Ignoring Responsibilities, and Failing to Reimburse an Elderly Woman for damages lasting almost 5 years. This has caused significant detriment and suffering for her as she watched her home being destroyed. The roofer ignored state inspections, repair costs, abused the elderly woman, and caused pain and suffering due to neglecting repercussions for nearly five years. He left only one crew person to work on the roof and garage while he was on vacation. As a result, the elderly woman was mistreated, bullied, and laughed at, with the roofer arrogantly stating that she will lose in court. Cecilia Ulibarri, Phone Number: [redacted]

Hello, I am Jose M., and you can reach me at [redacted] or via email at [redacted] At 48 years old, I have a background in construction, specializing in project management with practical experience in bidding and homeowner builder roles. I chose to pursue smaller private sector projects independently to avoid the complex contractor regulations, holding a business license and $2 million in liability insurance for my clients. Despite this, I have faced unwarranted scrutiny and interference from authorities, hindering my ability to work freely as an American. I request the CSLB to reconsider its approach and offer me a fair chance to demonstrate my skills and obtain a general contractor's license promptly, to avoid unnecessary conflict and allow me to continue providing for my family. I am prepared with all necessary documentation and readiness to comply. Thank you for your attention. Jose M.

Our contractor in Woodland, California initially quoted $25,[redacted] for the roof on our new construction home, as per the contract. However, he is now requesting $22,[redacted] specifically for the truss, in addition to the $4,[redacted] already paid for truss calculations. I am unsure if this additional charge is accurate. I am also seeking clarification on what exactly is included in the roof construction and a rough estimate for the total cost of a new roof on a new home. The contractor is insisting on this payment to proceed with the project and is also raising the lumber costs by 45%, asking for $37,[redacted] more. There is no mention of potential price increases in our contract, and I would like to have this in writing for verification.

Good morning, I need some help with our insured BBMK Contracting LLC, also known as BBMK General Construction (License #[redacted]). Yesterday, I spoke with a representative from your State License Board Department regarding the attached Workers' Compensation and General Liability Certificates. She said I should re-enter the policies on your website, but I keep getting an error stating they are already entered. I left a message with the Workers' Compensation Unit as per her advice and am now awaiting a call back on how to proceed. The certificates seem to be unsigned from the State website, making them non-compliant. I sent these certificates back in mid-June. Please advise on how we can resolve this issue. You can reach me at [redacted]. Thank you in advance.

I am looking for companies that offer termite and dry rot inspections without having a contractor license. These companies inspect a home for damage and then provide a repair estimate directly to the homeowner. However, they proceed to carry out the repairs without being licensed by the contractor state board. This sets up a potential conflict of interest as they essentially validate their own work. I believe they should only be allowed to conduct repairs if they hold a valid state board contractor license, ensuring impartiality in assessing and certifying their work. This system seems unjust and raises concerns about accountability and quality of work. - Bill Leonard
