The issue in GetHuman5301942's own words
I work as a pharmacy technician. I experience an upsetting phone encounter with a CVS pharmacy representative who was trying to help a customer get their information. The CVS representative when verifying their information with us referred to the patient’s first name as being difficult to pronounce because it was a Mexican name. I didn’t think that was appropriate. He didn’t attempt to spell it but claimed it was a Mexican name and then pronounced it. When I interacted with the customer to help them they told me about the name mix up and said the name was of Aztec origins. The assumption that the patient’s name is Mexican demonstrates a lack of awareness that there are a lot of cultures, and countries where Spanish maybe commonly spoken. To be clear, the representative’s statement was racist. Racism is impacting people across the United healthcare. Having someone assist customers is not appropriate.
