My daughter had been trying to find out about debit card fees while abroad. Her local bank at college said there are none so she thought everything was fine. I said she should check to be sure. Going to a local branch at home several weeks later they said they couldn't help her and to call the international number. She tried calling several times and had over a half hour wait which she couldn't stay on longer. Now she is abroad and I am still trying to find out exactly what fees apply. I've seen the on line fee chart but still have questions. The international number can't help me add i don't have the pin number for her card... I am on the account though. So i believe there is a$* fee for each atm withdrawal abroad. But does the out of network atm fee of$* also apply? Does the * free allowances of atm fee waiver apply to international fees? Do you pay the *% fee on top of the others for an atm withdrawal or is that only on purchases? Also us there a currency conversion fee on any transactions? I want to let her know the best way to avoid paying exorbitant fees but i have been very frustrated dealing with this bank. I can't get any straight answers. She has a student account and after all this run around I think she should get some fee waivers. Travel for her is exciting but as it is her first time, she is nervous and the money worries haven't helped. She thought she had done her homework by asking at her branch originally. Please advise. I'd appreciate any helpat this point.*Lisa
I trust that BB&T Bank will make this right and come up with a resolution that is fair.
