My family was sold a **** Toyota FJ CRUISER by AutoNation Ford in St Petersburg, Fl. It was an internet sale. The salesman lied about the overall cosmetic condition of vehicle. It clearly does not meet the NADA definition of ‘retail condition’. Paint cracking, clear coat peeling off lots of stone chips, missing wheather strip,cracked glass, seat torn - things we specifically asked about when we had salesman do a walk around. In fact. My wife took delivery from trucking co. On *****, drove the manual transmission vehicle * miles Home. She told me there was definitely something wrong with the clutch or transmission. The clutch felt as though it was not fully disengaging. I drove it ** miles to work, barely made it to work. In total we drove about ** miles and may have shifted through the gears **-** times to make the two trips. Had car towed to Hendrick Toyota of North Charleston,SC. They reported that the clutch in car needed replacing that it slipped in all gears. Clutch Master cylinder cap had been left off (had to be AutoNation tech). But that did not cause the slipping. It’s clear from AutoNation’s tech copy of the service order they had concerns before car was sold. They had serviced front and rear differentials and transfer case. Store GM Refused to do anything about the cosmetic problems and only offered to pay half the clutch. Then when we told him it would be over $ **** because extent of problem. He said he would only pay $****. We’ve received nothing. We still do not have the paperwork required to register and legally drive the car which we had fixed. Hendrick also had to service one of the differentials again because AutoNation tech left gasket off. Total repair of clutch, differential svc and tow ...$*,***.** And vehicle sits because of paperwork. .. we signed papers with notary on JULY **th. Still we wait. We did get advice from Danny Smith sales mgr. When my wife complained about the condition of the car and asked how he would have felt to receive it he chuckled and said he wouldn’t buy a car online from AutoNation. WE WANT reimbursement for repairs &tow. We want AutoNation to pay for hood paint, clear coat, replace repair*paint rusty strip above windshield, want windshield crack sealed, and rubber weather seal on right rear window and around radio antenna. Ethics of this location should be reviewed also. We are talking to attorneys.*I trust that Autonation will make this right and come up with a resolution that is fair.
