Reservation ********I had planned a trip to New Orleans with my best friend. This trip was a birthday treat and we planned this for a year. Followed all the instructions and when it came time for the trip, there are a snow event due that same weekend. Amtrak called less than ** hours before the trip and said they cancelled the trip. They never offered another day or anything other than "hey you have to figure it out yourself or you can fly down and take the train back". If I wanted to fly I would have booked airline tickets! The agents were downright rude and completely useless!! **I live literally a block away from the Fredericksburg VA station and the trains ran all weekend!! I live so close I can hear the loudspeaker when the trains are being announced. So why our train was cancelled I cant understand. There was snow all weekend and into Monday and Amtrak ran the entire time!! The train **, I believe is the number was out of Washington DC. They got less snow that Virginia did so quite frankly I'm at a lost as to what Amtrak was playing at!**My friend travels all the time be it via air or sea and she has never had such poor customer service! If there was any problems with her previous trips, she was promptly notified by both email and phone! Not the case here. She has always been offered alternatives. If there was a weather event or if something else went wrong with her travel arrangements, she was contacted and adjustments made. Because of the way Amtrak handled this she will never travel Amtrak again and I have lost a travel companion as I'm afraid to fly. I have never seen a company so eager to give money back to a customer! Amtrak must be making money hand over fist if they can afford to basically throw money back at their customers.
