I purchased a direct flight ticket from RIC to DFW for ******, departing at *:** a.m. and arriving at *:** a.m. When I woke up to get ready for my flight on ***, I had an e-mail from American saying my flight was delayed until noon. Upon arriving at the airport, I found out that there were problems with the door and was assured the mechanics would have it fixed ASAP. The flight was subsequently delayed three times and then cancelled. At that point, there were no options to get me to Dallas for an expensive concert that I had booked to attend with my daughter that evening. My daughter finally texted me with a flight that would work, but the agent would not book it, since it was an "unallowed" connection (** minutes) in Charlotte. She said there were seats available on that flight out of Charlotte but the only way I could get on it was to just try to run to the gate when I arrived in Charlotte. If I missed it, I would be on a later flight getting me in well after the concert. I was put on flight **** leaving RIC at *:** p.m. It was late arriving in Charlotte, but I ran to the gate only to find out flight **** was booked, and I needed to be put on standby. At that point, I broke down crying, because I had already missed a full day of being with my daughter and it looked like I was going to miss the concert as well. I think the gate attendant took pity on me and put me on the flight. I arrived in Dallas around *:** p.m. and, after getting my luggage that I was forced to check since all the overhead space was already taken, my daughter picked me up and we were just ** minutes late for the concert. It was such a stressful day of up and down emotions with being delayed, cancelled, running to a new gate in Charlotte, being denied a seat, then getting a seat, having to retrieve my luggage (which I always just do carry on) and being late for the concert, that I could hardly enjoy it once we arrived. I paid for a direct flight and ended up with a connection, arriving ** hours after I had hoped, having to check a bag, missing a full day of my four day trip. I would like to request a credit, or refund or **,*** points on my account - something to get me another trip to Dallas, since I feel this one was ruined. I do want to mention that every gate attendant and flight attendant was very sympathetic to me, it was just not the easy, direct flight that I have come to expect from American. Thank you for your consideration.
