Trying to turn off Two-Step Verification on Amazon

I have Amazon's Two-Step Verification already set up. Amazon sends a text to my cell phone for One-Time Password. BUT I am travelling and have no access to phone or text on my cell phone. I had to drive into town in order to get logged in. (After driving into town, I called my wife on a landline to the condo, had her sign on, got the text on my phone since I was in town, then gave her the code as I talked to her on the landline.)*I want to turn off two step authentication. I have hunted for a way to do this on the web site. BUT I don't want to have to drive down into town again to get a code.*Why is it so difficult to turn off Two-Step Verification?*(Editing my response... this forum does not allow use of numbers, each number is converted to asterisk) Not helpful

I tried contacting Amazon Customer Service. Their method of verifying it was me was to answer the following questions: What are the last three items you have ordered? When did you join Prime, giving exact month and year? What is the balance on your Gift Card? If you can't log into Amazon because they are sending a One-Time Password to your cell phone and you temporarily do not have cell service, who could possibly answer any of that? Customer Service solutions for not being able to log on required logging on as a first step. I could have given multiple credit card numbers used to purchase items (one personal and one business). Is this the only site that doesn't provide challenge questions? (Mother's maiden name, paternal grandfather's first name, name of street you grew up on). Even logged in to Amazon, I still can't find when I joined Prime.

First, Amazon Customer Service was absolutely no help at all.*The solution to turn off Two Step Verification (*SV) is to:**. Sign on to Amazon. **. Click on 'Account & Lists' near the top, to the left of the 'Cart' button.**. Click on 'Your Account' in the upper right in the new window.**. Click on 'Login & Security' at the top of the new page.**. Click on 'Edit' next to 'Two-Step Verification (*SV) Settings:'**. Click on 'Get Started' (yes, even though you have it already set up)**. I don't remember exactly from here. (Did I have to re-enter password? Some other minor step?*But it finally gave me a box to click that was labelled 'Disable'. Sorry I can't be more specific in step * but I can't easily turn it back on so that I can see the exact sequence, but it really was nothing once I got to step *.*Customer Service was telling me that One-Time Password was something separate from *SV. But setting up *SV is what causes One-Time Password to be sent.*I guess once you have entered One-Time Password for a new device it will not be required again (close, but not ***% sure).*There is evidently some sort of app you can download that will also allow you to turn it off, but I did not want to go that route.
