I have talked to customer care at Abbot twice. Both times, they told me they were sending a new meter to replace a severely defective meter that could have resulted in the death of my husband and may have already resulted in the deaths of many. When he arrived at the ER, his BG was down to ** but his meter was showing TWO HUNDRED POINTS HIGHER and he had taken two insulin injections over a period of hours to get it down when the meter was showing ***. The hospital checked their system against his meter * times and it was always approx. *** pts. higher. Unbelievably dangerous! He was hospitalized for * days while they worked on stabilizing his glucose. It's hard to believe that Abbot would not have jumped in and resolved this issue BIG TIME. But two reps told me they were sending a new meter and none has arrived. The last conversation was approx. * weeks ago and she said it would take * to * days to arrive. Most of the conversation was about who knows about this. Somebody needs to take care of this matter quickly as the insurance thinks he has the meter and won't renew his test kit so he is in danger again.
