I purchased tickets for me and my husband to fly from Newark, NJ to Orlando, FL on March **, ****. NJ was expecting a Nor'easter that day. On Tuesday, March **, the day before we were to fly, I went to the Succasunna, NJ office to see if there was a way to change flights due to the severe weather warnings. This was at ** am. My agent, Deborah Pugh, told me that United will not change the ticke... ... I did some errands and called my daughter whom was flying from Albany, NY to meet us in Orlando with her husband and our grandchildren. She was able to change her tickets on South West due to the bad forecast. She suggested I call United myself and find out if I could do the same. I called. United said a waiver was issued on March ** in the afternoon and that yes, I could change my tickets. By now it was after * pm. I was too late. All flights were booked solid. I wanted to get on an earlier flight since the storm was not to begin until the early morning.
I was very upset. Why would the travel agent not know about the waiver or at least have called and found out. I had not flown in ** years and depended on AAA who I thought were the professionals to handle the situation correctly. By time I got back to the Succassunna office it was around *:** pm. I did not get much satisfaction until the manager was called over. She told the agent she should have called and took the blame but that still did not get me on an earlier flight. We tried all angles but nothing was available. I was furious. If they called the airlines at **am, my husband and I might have gotten a seat on an earlier flight. I ended up in tears fearing I would not be able to meet my grandchildren for our long timed trip.
I was desperate and tried to call United myself, one last time. After a ** minute wait, I got connected and by some blessing I got the last two seats on a * am flight on March **. As it turned out, it was the only flight leaving that day and we did make it to Orlando, FL. I am angry, however, that I paid for a professional service and receive enept service and had to rely on my own ingenuity to figure out our flight. I have been a very long time customer of AAA and was quite disappointed.
