My Experience Calling Oklahoma Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV/RMV) at this Number

Aug 17, 2023

Calling the Oklahoma Department of Motor Vehicles takes a great deal of time because you have to listen to a lot of recorded messages before reaching a directory. You have to be patient but, if you keep wading through the phone directory map, eventually you'll get to talk to someone.

When you first call you're greeted by a recorded message that thanks you for calling the Oklahoma DMV, then lists the office hours for the DMV phone call center. It tells you to go to their website and look at individual location pages to find out the hours for the branch offices. Finally, it tells callers that if they need to mail something to the DMV they can do so at the following general address. It lists the full address and then tells callers that there are many tasks that can be taken care of online so check out the website first to look for frequent questions and scheduling options.

Finally, after you get through three minutes of talking, the recording walks you through the directory map which includes commercial driver licenses, suspended licenses, standard ID questions, disability placards, and auto and vehicle registration.

I accidentally pressed the wrong button and then had to hang up and call again. However, I didn't want to listen to the three-minute recording at the beginning of the call so I attempted to press 3 to shortcut. While it didn't take me immediately to ID questions, I learned that pressing any button will skip the recorded part and take callers straight to the directory which was very helpful.

Once the directory started, I was able to press option 3. This led to a new directory listing to listen to, and then I choose four to learn how to apply for a driver's license in the state of Oklahoma. This took me to a new recording that instructed me to go online and look at the checklist of items required to apply and to find a location near me. The recording also said that if I needed to renew my license, I can do it online.

I wanted to transfer my license to the state of Oklahoma, so these options didn't help me and I chose to wait on the line to talk to an agent. It took about ten minutes before I got to the agent but they were able to help me fairly quickly. They told me exactly what to bring to my local DMV so I could do it in one trip.
