Be warned: This is not a working customer service phone number. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts apparently has simply changed its number and disconnected its old one, but most sources haven't yet gotten that information.

When I dialed, I received a message saying, "You have reached a non-working phone number for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Please check the directory and try your call again."

I had taken the number directly from here, so I searched online to see what I could find. On Boston University's website, the number I had dialed was listed as the number for Massachusetts Unemployment Assistance. On unemploymenthandbook.com, the same was true.

I dialed again, getting the same message as the first time. I then decided to try including a 1 before the area code, with no difference. At that point, I checked the Massachusetts Department of Unemployment's official website and found that this number does not appear anywhere on its site. Instead, it lists its phone number as (877) 626-6800, and its hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Eastern time Monday through Friday. It also includes an automated assistance line at (617) 626-6338.

Given that the automated message says you've reached a non-working number for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, it's clear that this was an official number at one point. However, the Commonwealth has apparently changed its number fairly recently, and anyone who dials this number is simply wasting their time.
