Calling Thumbtack for a customer service question or concern can be a challenging endeavor as I recently discovered. I'm not currently a Thumbtack customer but wanted to get information about the service, which connects homeowners with local contractors and professionals to complete repairs or provide house cleaning.
When calling the 800 number, the automated system explained my call may be recorded followed by a prompt to enter 1 for English or 2 for Spanish. After selecting English, I was told to enter in the number phone number connected with my account. Knowing that I had never used this service or had any account associated with Thumbtack, I tried to bypass the prompt by pressing 0 and saying ,customer service' but neither worked.
Without any other menu options, I finally entered in my phone number and was told my interaction with the company would continue with text messaging. The call ended and I immediately received a text from Thumbtack prompting me to reply with yes or no if I'd like to continue with self-assistance texting. After responding with yes, the text conversation continued with an update that this was Thumbtack's automated assistant. I needed to press 1 for English and then choose 1 to request help based on being a customer or 2 for a pro (business/contractor).
I texted back with 1 and waited for more information but no other messages were received. I texted 1 again and still received no other text messages. This was frustrating and seemed like a waste of time, especially since the automated phone system disconnected my call based on the fact that I would be helped via text. I decided to follow the text prompts one more time and see if maybe there was some sort of glitch. However, after repeating the same process with the text options, I encountered the same result: nothing.
I chose to call the 800 number again and see if I could maneuver around the automated system by saying help, customer service an operator, Yet, the system told me all of those were invalid options and the call was again disconnected. Without any other phone or text options, I did a quick internet search to see if there were any other 800 numbers associated with Thumbtack that I could call but found none.
At this point, it seemed like moving on was my best option. I'm not sure how other callers have dealt with accessing Thumbtack's customer service but the phone and texting systems definitely need to be improved for better assistance and support.
