RCA / Thomson Electronics Customer Service

Calling the RCA/Thomson Electronics customer service line is one of the weirdest experiences I have ever had — at least when calling a company for technical support. However, if you have the time to hang in there through some lengthy wait time, it may just work out in your favor to call them if you want to talk to a live person without all the fuss of sitting through a directory.

While RCA is not quite as popular as it used to be, it still makes several electronics, including televisions with 4K qualities integrated with 4K technology. That is what I own, but I am experiencing some issues with my TV and how it connects to the internet so I needed to talk to someone about them. I think my television is still under the manufacturer's warranty, so I wanted to see what RCA would do to help me. 

I knew that calling any company for technical support would always be a shot in the dark because tech companies are notorious for poor customer support. Sometimes, you can wait for hours to talk to someone who has bad English and doesn't end up helping you at all, but if it got me a replacement TV, then it was worth the gamble. There are tons of reasons why people might be calling RCA from issues with their electronics to issues with online orders, so I knew, at the very least, there would be a decent wait. 

However, I was not prepared for what happened when I called. Instead of someone picking up the phone, it instantly goes straight to this mellow hold music. I was a bit surprised and hung up. I called again, thinking that I had mistakenly pressed a button. Sure enough, this line takes you directly to some type of hold line. I wasn't sure what to do at this point, but I decided to wait a bit. I was working anyhow, so I left my phone at the corner of my desk.

To my surprise, about half an hour later, someone actually picked up and helped me with my issue! This number has to be some type of hack to customer service, but it's the best hack I've ever found. I'd happily go straight to hold versus dealing with some virtual assistant or endless phone directory. It's weird, admittedly, but I got some answers without waiting a long time, which was a victory for me.
