Calling this number is actually productive even if you don't enter in your personal information, which is a little bit disconcerting. When you call this number, it appears that you hit a chokepoint at the beginning, given that the system asks you to enter your card number. However, you can bypass this chokepoint by saying that you do not have your card.

If you do, you can also get into your account by entering your Social Security Number into the system. If you don't wish to do that either, you can get help by saying that your card is lost or damaged, or by making one of the other choices available. I did not wish to enter personal information, but I decided to at least check how quickly you can get a response, so I entered that my card was lost or damaged.

To my surprise, I did get a customer service representative on the line in less than a minute. As this number is used to get federal benefits on a debit card, I did not feel comfortable continuing the conversation or pretending that I had a lost card when I did not. As such, I opted to end the call without responding to the friendly greeting.

Overall, I was impressed with the quick response time and the ease of getting someone on the phone. Government numbers usually have long backup times, and it was refreshing to see that you can get help from this number without having to wait more than a couple minutes. On the other side of the ledger, the lack of a firm chokepoint is a bit worrisome with a government number of this nature. It does seem that you can only get a replacement card or check delivery status without entering personal information, but if that's not the case, that's troublesome.

As it is, I would use this number to get assistance, as it's clear you can get help very quickly when needed.
